SCRZBill put an application in to brother D, but was rebuffed. Diogenes had him vetted on AZ and he came back, "excommunicated."
Maybe he should have applied to Brother Wilson. It's tough to get excommunicated over on the All-Zaniness site, they let all kinds of under-medicated maniacal lunatics on that site. I guess it's like I've been telling him for years, he's just got no self-control.

I think the practice of,not rule, calling fouls on yourself is meant to keep the creepy, sharking players from crawling all over the table when anything might allow them. Pool doesn't permit the opposing player the right to stare from a vantage point comprable to the shooter, nor are his intentions known with the shot. Golf and billiards are similiar in that the concentration needed to perform in competitive situations dictates your opponent to be quiet and away from the table. He may ask if you fouled, but many times only the shooter knows the true answer. Golfers have lived by these rules and I think we can all agree it has done well by them, and I am no golfer.
Does this mean you have an opinion in regard to JB's original post? If so, please do share it with us.

Are you saying that you're so trustworthy that I shouldn't be concerned when you are shooting? That you will call any & all fouls you commit when you're at the table? What about when I'm playing a creepy, sharking player? You know the kind, they always say "You can trust me". Should I trust him to call all fouls on himself?

Calling a foul

This might be a dumb ? or It might have been gone over,But anyway....
What if your opp Is not paying attention and you don't hit a rail after contact,
do you call It on yourself or not? I have wondered about this for a long time.
Thanks,John B.

If I'm playing JB and he plays a tap safety in a cluster along the rail and from my vantage point I wasn't able to be sure if he fouled, asking him if he fouled seems perfectly logical. I have been asked the same and respond to the best of my ability, truthfully. I expect nothing less from my opponents. I believe if asked in that situation JB would simply answer honestly. One can watch a shot and still not be certain, instant replay in todays pro sports turns up varing opinions all the time. I am also aware of rail birds and wouldn't want to develope a rep that might cost easy action because of a perceived lack of honesty. Thats just me and I'm no Angel. If for some reason a third party or ref calls the shot then his call stands, right or wrong. Without a high speed camera and review booth ,golf and billiards presents shots were only the shooter can really know.

I am the guy who wont play someone who is not honest. And if you don't want to play a sport by the rules, then that's dishonest. That's not an aspersion. Those are basic facts. If you need money so bad, get a gun and be an honest criminal. Lets play there's no rules because it doesn't fit my 5th amendment rights against self incrimination? Equating sports which is SUPPOSED to be and test of skills, and criminal activity. These's an admission.:heh:heh
I feel like you have went from "cheating" to now "dishonest." Perhaps there is an admission :D

I know for a fact that I am playing by the rules going to my chair after a miss.

What would you do if you fouled 3 times in a row and your opponent didn't warn you on two?? Would you simply give him the game because you are honest?? I hope not. And if you didn't give it to him, no aspersions would be cast at you -- somebody could say something, but that would be illogical right?? That is what I believe you are doing.... illogically casting aspersions in this way. But to each their own -- but again, to your way of thinking all your favorite sports heros are all cheaters and dishonest... so there it is. Those are facts.

Anyway, this thread us way too long

Unless this thread has morphed, and it very well could have, the thread is about calling a foul on yourself or not if your opponent didn't see. Big difference I think.

I will note something else before my parting, I actually feel that a guy who calls a foul on himself is doing something not in accordance with the rules many times. When guys grab the cb and pick it up after a bad hit in say 9ball, I dont think they have any business touching that cb. Why would an outgoing player ever need to touch the cb? I actually think this could even be punishable by loss of game technically. Anyway, that was just a sidenote :D

This is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate my own hypocritical tendencies :)

Weather i do or don't announce a foul to my opponent depends entirely on who i am playing. I usually expect them to notice and if they don't then I make a decision. several factors go into this....... is it an action game, do I know the guy, is he a douchebag, Etc.

However, if I see a player trying to slide one by ME, he is done and I won't give him money games again. There are plenty of players out there who play fair so why waste my time with the Schmucks ??

calling a foul

calling a foul

If you don't get a rail, it's a foul.
It is a foul, no matter who sees it.
If I foul, I acknowledge it, whether or not my opponent saw it.
No finger pointing, no name calling, just stating what I think.

Of course it's a dumb question Catfishbreath, you probably won't even get more than 6 or 7 responses to this stupid question:p.

Very funny, a misogynist telling someone they have no self control.

As I said earlier in this thread.

I would call a foul on myself no matter what it cost.

Well in Vegas in the recent one pocket tournament playing Brandon I did just that.

He did not see me foul the cue ball.

It left him straight in on his game ball and put him on the hill in the match.

sappo,

Although I'm always talking about gambling situations when questions arise I would stand by what I believe no matter where the game was, tournament or not. To do less would show no character at all from me. If John accidently fouled the rock or didn't get a rail on a shot it would go against his own stated opinion here to call a foul on himself.

Let me be perfectly clear here: If John & I were gambling or in a tournament and he called a foul on himself and tried to spot a ball, I would tell him no. He and I both feel the same on this (scary) and we both know it's your opponent's duty to watch the game and call supposed fouls.

It's opponents who are lazy or distracted that leads to problems.

......I guess the rules have changed......let me get it straight....I don't want to be the only one in a tourny....that doesn't know......

........senerio :

...my opponant purposely fouls.......so as not to advance my position in the game (touches the cueball with his cuetip and spots a ball to block my next shot)......and I say....."no foul".....

......do I have to call a ref for a decision...or can I make him put the ball back in his pocket...and then run out...?....

......isn't saying that there is no foul when there obviously...was one...as bad as saying...that there was a foul when there obviously was none....?...

......most tourney situations don't have a ref....until the final stages of the competition.....I would think that it doesn't give license to the up-coming shooter to evaluate...whether the foul is a benifit to his position...and accept it if it is.....and deny it.....if it's not....

.....like I said...it's possible the rules have changed or I have been missled.........

....maybe someone on here would be so kind as to look it up and post the rules on fouls...with or without a ref being present....

....if I have been breaking any kind of rule by telling my opponant when I foul......I sincerly apologize to all those I've wronged over the years....

OP926,

Did you read past post #6? I'm sure questions like yours have arisen in this thread and already been answered. The "goodguys" came at John & I from every direction.

...first off...thanks for the heads-up on post #6....some on here have been to "quick to shoot"....and would assume that I dissagree...with your assesment......

....when actually I was trying to make sure that I completely understand the rule...I have in the past been approached for a ruling between novice players......and I dont want to "breed ignorance" (bet hacker would love to respond in this forum to that comment :lol )

.......here's where I keep :frus ......I did actually read post #6 and it was that thread that prompted me to respond....in it you say...."There is no foul until your opponent calls one on you"........and in the thread I actually responded to...you say that you would automaticly say..."no foul".....if your opponant called one on himself.......it leads me to wonder weather or not you as the "opponent"...alone have the...option.....of allowing or not allowing the "shooters" self calling of a foul to stand....

....I have always assumed that in the absence of an impartial Referee...the 2 players were to act in Consensus.....to referee thier own match and when that Consensus could not be reached the ......impartial Referee was to be called....

....it seems to me that if only your opponant has the right to call a foul on you......he could call one at any time...and you would have no recorse.....

....so if the impartial Referee is called to settle the dissagreement...and he is ..."bias neutral".......the foul would stand on it's own....

.....I apreciate the info.....and am waiting for the jack hammer so I can get thru this...... :frus

thanks,

Only thing I can add to this is there are some players that I could say go a head and shoot while I run to the restroom.(I've done it plenty of times too). Then there are some that I know I have to stand over their shoulder every time they shoot ,pretty much.If I knew that everybody I played was going to play by the rules I would be all for that,no problem. But that aint the case with alot of the players that I get to face. However my veiws come from big pro tournys where there is alot on the line. Not just playin your every day 20$ onepocket.I rest my case:lol John B.

.....absolutly right...most players I say..."go ahead and shoot"....so as not to hold up the game....but there are those where I wait till my shot....and I lay my stick on the table and make them wait........I have a feeling I could tell you to...."go ahead and shoot".... :lol

We had an expression we use to say. When we use to go to the restroom, we would say to our oppornent "Go ahead and shoot ya cock off" which just meant to go ahead and take your turn at the table while I go to take a leak.......
