The 2023 US Open 1P and Bamks in August at Griffs has been canceled and the new dates have been set for November 2-8. The August dates were running up against the Texas Opne and had been limiting signups for this event. I will have more info in a few days.

Thanks for the heads up Tres. If you have any info on how to get an entry refund, that would be good as well....

(Now have $420 in South West credit and out $520 non-refundable Hilton room)

Re-arranged my fall schedule and vacation logistics to make this trip work.

US Open/Griffs.....what a consistent shit show.

When will the US Open get a clue and quit stepping on other tournaments?

I'm in a trap as well -- Dustin and I were going to go play in Vegas and hang together for a few days.

I'm not so sure the Nov date works for me and am probably looking at a loss. I would hope Griff's will refund the $330 entry/green fees with the same PP "F & F" requirement they put on it going in, since it's on them and their change.

Udder than that, its a disappointment.

We were working out together on a regular basis and I felt both our games were improving. We were psyched, at least as much as "dead money" can be, lol. As Dustin put it today, this just kind of "just takes the wind out of your sails." We'll get over it but this could have easily been avoided.

I tried to buy the US open a few months ago so we could get it back to where it should be. "Oh, no, Mr. Griffin wanted it to be here. We'll put it on here with the money from his estate." Still being run the same way; always tone deaf on other tournaments, stepping on other promoter's weekends.

good on you joe. good for all of us that you are out there.

Griffs is a really nice room - just not sure the venue is ideal to carry the moniker US Open. if that is indeed the way Mark had his probate assets set up, whatever kind of executor(s) there are would be well served to coordinate or get assistance from someone like yourself or Tres moving forward for future planning.

Yes, Mark wanted it to happen at his room every year...

I think Mark got tired of paying the casinos and the unions to haul tables in and out.

For a while it was great under the auspices of CSI.

One thing I do know is that when Matt R. was running the Open up in Kalamazoo everyone knew the dates of next year's event before they left so they could plan accordingly.

The problem, IMO is, that some of the guys running these events nowadays don't have a clue about giving players a sufficient heads up. So, sure, some pros will show up no matter what. But events like this are built on the backs of amateurs that just want to play and don't mind contributing to the Pro Pool Player Retirement Fund. And they need notice to plan around vacations, work, and school.

It's a shame to see this happen for absolutely no good reason.

I would say “For a while it was…OK…under the auspices of CSI. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A big regret for me.

When Matt Rosenthal was calling it quits he called and asked me if I wanted to take/buy the US Open One Pocket and start running it. Unfortunately at the time I couldn’t.

Mark Griffin had somewhat good intentions but he just wanted to have all the “Trademarks” of US Opens in my opinion. The passion wasn’t there for him after he bought ‘Pool Sharks’ and turned it into ‘Griffs’.

An action room is a different beast than a normal pool room and Mark never really had an ‘action room’ out of all his places.

Griffs is far from a bigger tournament friendly pool room. 🤷🏻‍♂️
