Just got word that one of our members here just won his match against DeLuna in Sacramento. Nice shooting Henry. He is one of my regular playing partners.

That is great news indeed!!!! OP can be a great equalizer!
Henry (I know him as Walt) used to come to our annual small town 9-ball tournament and that is where I first met him, 20yrs ago. We played for 3/4, I shot at the 1 and left a pretty hard shot on it, and some reason he was looking at the 2 which was an easy shot, but he couldn't figure something out, like what is going on here, after over a minute of confusion I stepped up and told him; "your on the 1", like yah OK! A guy in the crowd said yelled out you're not suppose to do that, but I did not want to win a game that way. And he later laid down a great kick safety I could not get out of on hill hill. I'll always remember him saying; "they have made 9-ball into a 3 cushion game". He later showed up with Ronnie Allen a couple of times. Whitey

I just got back from LA and I played Frank all day and I learned something when that match was over. We broke even and Frank was not playing great but the reason I didn't win was decision making not execution and that is the difference between One Pocket and Rotation games. Frank makes you beat him he will never beat himself and he does that by making the right decisions every time and if I make the wrong decisions no matter how good I shoot he wins and I feel the pressure which impacts my execution. Willie Mosconi said the key to winning in pool was to have your opponent feel all the pressure and you feel none. So how do you do that? In one pocket it helps if I make all the right decisions it seems there is no pressure because I know I have done all I can. I had a decent tournament I beat Jeffery DeLuna the first match by making all the right decisions and coming with some shots under pressure. I then played Amar so I had a tough draw and he got ahead 2/0 I stuck with my game plan and things turned around and I got back to 2/2. He won lag had the final break and I couldn't get out of the break and lost to a great player. I beat a couple other players and ran into John Henderson and he played real good John doesn't always play real good but he did this time. I was happy with the way I played and a couple rolls my way and I am in the thick of it. Sitting here trying to decide if I should drive 2 hours to play in the 9 ball. Haven't played 10 sets of 9 ball in 5 years but its not that hard of a game.

Hey Dennis I have fond memories of those Klamath Falls Tournaments. You mention I came one time with Ronnie. Ronnies sister and brother live in Chico so he would show up a couple times a year and we would go hustle pool around Nor Cal and Southern Oregon. Like everyone who has been around Ronnie I have some story's . When I would get in action playing One Pocket Ronnie could not stand the way I played he would get so hot at my great decision making I worried he might have a stroke. The truth is I had never played much one pocket at all at this time and he was not a very good coach. He tried to teach me but did not have much luck. I miss Ronnie. Have you heard from Zeke? He said he was going to call you last time I talked to him. He needs someone to play one pocket with.

Henry,
When Ronnie came with you to our tournament, I introduced him to a nice couple as the real life "Fast Eddie" from the movie the hustler, they said; "No". But later on in the day I seen Ronnie setting up a bank shot to show this couple. It a One Pocket bank. The cue ball is out from his pocket the object ball is frozen to the 2nd long rail diamond by his scoring pocket. He hits the object ball with reverse spin and drives it into the head rail and it reverses off and banks back into his scoring pocket. But, he also uses follow to make the cue ball go to the head rail and off to pocket his next ball that is frozen to the 1st diamond foot rail adjacent to his scoring pocket. He pulled it off first try, great to see!
Thereafter I went up to the couple and asked them; " do you believe he is "Fast Eddie" now? They nodded their heads and said; "oh yah"! I knew this shot but not the follow variations of Ronnie's. I intend to do a bank video of this to share, one of these days.

But Zeke I've only seen once and we exchanged ph #'s, but since I had my ph. stolen. I have heard he has played in a few tournaments in town, but he does not get out much. I'll look him up, and let you know! Whitey

And you used to be a 9 ball specialist! 'Course everyone was then. 25 years ago no one could get a one-pocket game in NorCal. Glad you came over to the sunny side of the street...

Go take care of business!

I lost to Ernesto 3/1. Won the first game and had a chance on the second but goofed up a run and Ernesto took advantage and got rolling and won the match.

My next match was with Henry(We call him Walt), and it might have been my best match of the tournament. The match probably took three hours and all that playing time with The Barber down south has made him a more patient player and I had to earn every ball I got. I ended up 7/8th and was happy with the way I played. Little Al Romero (82) and I cashed in both tournaments, which is pretty good for a couple of old farts. There were 131 players in the nine ball and we both finished in the top 16.

I am tuning up for the Seniors at Bogies, Houston in October. Watch out boys.

Congrats to you John, Little Al, Walt, Ernesto, & Louis for taking it to the young ins. I caught the action between Louis and young gun John Schmidt, with you commentating, and man he was taking it to John. I see this as a hill hill match if Louis played a little stronger as you know he can. I hope I have Louis name correct.
What you think, a little more consistent, and for sure if we could turn back the clock a little bit and you guys are battling for the championship, there is something to be said about players that cut their teeth in the 60's.
You and Little Al both showing up at Houston would be special.
Thanks to you guys in Sacro for putting on a great tournament! Great Picture, like the look with the cowboy hat! Thanks to you and others for all the posts leading up, and during this tournament. Whitey
