Was kinda curious what some of you folks do to practice..?

I like the ghost bank game, but getting bad spreads and such can be a bit of a pain.. I want to just bust out some clusters sometimes when there is absolutely nothing available(instead of impossible shot after impossible shot), but that's doing something that really isn't true to the game, so I try to avoid it all costs - not that going for make-believe shots is really any better.

What helped me a bit was when I started playing, I'd run out of or get low on quarters or just get bored trying to play a rack by myself and so I'd take the last ball or two and just bank it back to myself. After a little bit of that, I started seeing how much throw or spin transfer I could get on a long bank - ie, CB lined up behind OB at head spot and see how far I could bank it over shooting straight at it, then moving both over closer to the rail and so on.

I like practicing the twist bank, too.. I need to start firing that shot a bit more, though, because it seems too easy to overspin the OB.

The fancy shots also help to keep me interested. Like the cross-over-pocket 2-rail side bank, 4 railers('round the world shot), 3 in the side the hard way, etc..

So, what keeps you banking?

......me!I have a GC3 here at the crib and self-discipline was never my strong suit,so Im constantly trying to find ways to keep banking.Variety is a big help.Pretending Im playing the best guys helps for awhile.Forcing myself to do drills rather than fooling around.Forcing myself to use no english helps.Dividing up time between playing and being serious and bearing down. Its a battleground and a playground.Trying to find that groove where everything goes and just a few go is extremely elusive for a middle of the road player.Knowing theres 2 million guys just like us is reassuring. As usual many are called but few are chosen, good luck,Bob

Play 3-4 racks at pocket speed. Play a few racks at med speed. Play a few more at banking speed. Play a few more at warp speed.

Play a race to 3 left vs right hand, spotting yourself 6-4.

Play with center-ball only . Play with "Center at the time of OB contact"-only. Play several racks with a throw stroke. Play several racks with hitting them wide and holding them. Play several racks throwing them. Play several racks where you lay down safe on every shot.

Play a few racks shooting only 2, 3, 4, 5 railers. Learn the twice around the table 6-railer. Shoot 4-railers from everywhere.

Or drop by and play Blackeee.

i like to sit 15 balls up in a line down the middle of the table, banking them all across the side or across the corner, giving myself ball in hand after each shot.
Last time i did this i banked all 15 balls in without a miss. IT sharpens your game, try it.

newfo..

I can 'see' 2 or 3 railers to the side or corner. I can 'see' 4 and 5 railers to the corner.

6 railer??? Where does it go, and how does it lay?

That is-if you're sharing. If not-I don't blame ya.

Take care

I can practice banks for about an hour. Short rail corner pockets, Short rail side pockets.

Long rail corner banks are so frustrating. Pocket speed or just enough speed to get back up table. With spin and center low or center high (half tip either way)

I seem to be able to aim better after these practice sessions. My 9 ball game speed and aiming feel much better if I practice banks prior.

This is excellent bank practice. Every Time you bank a ball just reach out, grab the rock and place it to shoot the next ball. Try to maintain a rhythm. You'll be surprised when you miss one:) .

Oh Good !!!...Now I can practice banks until my eyes bleed, and my arms fall off...That is really exciting....I was getting so bored with practicing 8, 10, and 12 outs, I am so glad you gave me a new [sic] challenge...

PS..I am sure you have no trouble "maintaining a rhythm" while you are watching your porno flicks..:p

Dear Sloppy Slut lover breath,

It is not surprising that you would be attracted to some "trailer trash", who cannot even afford to dress in anything but raggedy ass jeans...All the sweeties I hung with, were dressed to the nines...If they couldn't afford it...I gave them my credit card, and told them not to come back until they looked and smelled REAL good...:p :p

Duck <---would not be seen with a sloppily dressed bimbo...

PS..Actually though, now that I think about, Marilynn is probably a little 'overdressed'...for Detroit or Chicago.. (in Cal, Az, or Texas, she would be stoned to death)..

This seemed like an interesting thread at one time. Go back to post #11 and start again.

I agree with this too.I do this alot. It's good practice to do that.
I also just toss 9 balls out on the table and try not to miss.I like shooting alot of rapid fire cross sides alot too. One thing I think would help just about anyone Is to use video and then go back and watch how bad you jump up and move and not stay down and raise up and move and well....you get the point.John B.

yes it did and it explains your excellence at bank pool
my question for you as a general question
does a bank pool player have a disadvantage adapting to other games compared to a 9 ball or straight pool player??

you dont practice run out patterns and cutting balls into holes
they dont practice banks

just askin for opinions

I was sort of curious about this part, too. When I started doing the bank pool ghost game, I was trying to figure out what break would work best and set up for the most opportunities for banks after the break. I'm sure that there could be a method for better pattern chances.

Banks,

As far as I'm concerned a "true" Bank Pool game is played with 15 balls and with enough bet on it so that neither player open breaks. Open breaking with a 15 ball rack just ties up the table. This leaves no opportunity to have better pattern chances after the break. It would serve you well to learn the full-rack bank-pool game.

Quite a few of the shots you see in a short-rack, 3 out of 5 match at the D.C.C. are shots that these very same players would never in life shoot for serious cash (their own) in a full-rack game.
