I finally got around to editing and uploading some photos taken at the
first Clyde Childress Memorial Pool Tournament in 1982. I had not done
anything with these photos previously for three reasons. First, I
didn't have the negatives and I like to be able to go back to scans of
negatives for photo editing, Second, I didn't know the date of the
tournament and didn't want to put up a gallery of pics without
accurate historical information. And third, due to a camera
malfunction, the left third of the images was drastically
underexposed. Well, I identified the tournament as the 1982 Clyde
Childress tourney and decided that cropping out the underexposed areas
of the images still left some valuable pics. The gallery may be viewed
by going to our Website (billporter.smugmug.com). It is the "featured"
gallery at this time. Or, to go directly to this particular gallery, click this link: http://billporter.smugmug.com/gallery/7372948_4SxEq#475502391_fwgk2

Great to see these, Bill!

In the second pic, is that Gary Spaeth, dead center in the photo behind Hopkins?

(photog talk: On digital cameras you get that partially darkened frame effect if your shutter speed is set too fast for the maximum sinc speed of the camera)

If you mean the guy with the mustache just behind Allen's butt, that's Butch Baker, a strong player from Cincinnati. I haven't finished all the captions, but I'll add Butch's name to this one.

A puzzle for you guys

A puzzle for you guys

Notice that in photos number 2, 8, and 13 almost no one in the stands is looking at the shooter who is at the table. Considering that these are some of the best players in the world at that time, please explain why no one is watching them shoot.

They are watching Mike Massey comb his natural. :p It looks like Cecil is cueing at an object ball, so I assume the players are just warming up for their matches. The program says they are playing on 4x8 Brunswicks, but I could have sworn those were Globals.

Thank you for putting up these pictures! I really enjoy seeing how it was done back in the day.
