I’m driving cross country starting December 30th.. I’ll be at the Derby on the 23rd. (Unless there’s some crazy blizzard.) I’ll also be at Iron City to watch the one pocket tournament , Buffalos to visit and various pool rooms in NC, SC,Georgia,Texas,Tulsa and Vegas. Debating on Santa Monica. If you see me say hi. Happy Holidays Everyone!

I heard Santa Monica House of Billiards will be closed or closing soon. Stop by Hard Times in Sacramento and CA Billiards in Fremont if you can. Best pool rooms on the west coast.

Does anybody know what kind of balls are used at DCC 2022? Last time I went there (2018), Cyclops were used, but I heard they don´t exist any more...

No Cyclops. Probably Aramith measles CB.

Surprised to see that they adopted the referee cleaning ball rule-- that a shot clock will not be stopped. I disagree with this.

Shot Clock
TV arena matches are subject to a shot clock, and possibly other matches as determined by tournament officials. Players will get one clock extension per game. When the clock reaches Zero, it will not be a foul as long as the player is down on the ball and does not move from that position.
The shot clock will continue to run during the requested cleaning of a ball.

In other words, no one will ever request that the ball be cleaned.

They just need to be coached to adapt. For instance, first thing you do when its your turn is go up and look at the cueball as well as the line of the shot. If there is a problem you deal with it right then and look around the table as usual while they are cleaning the ball. Just be back ready to shoot.. there is plenty of time if you play that way.
It used to drive me crazy in Mosconi they weren't coached to have their jump cues put together before a match so they had to hurry to get it out of their case and put it together if they needed it as time was running...stupid and that lasted a few years...lol

stupid mistakes get punished. that separates the almost greats from the real greats.

no way can you allow the clock to stop for a player's want of cueball cleaning or most anything else. other wise when they need more time they call for ball cleaning. or worse to cheat and ask for ball cleaning when it is not a cutable shot and they hope the ref puts it back a tiny bit off so they can see the shot now.

the only time the clock should stop if the ref sees for himself that the ball needs cleaning if that may affect the shot.

banks and one pocket for me.
Planned to get our booster shots this week but now they have me wondering if I shouldn't wait until they have an omicron specific booster ready early 2022. I'm just afraid it's going to be after the Derby...

Edit - Actually, since Pfizer's booster is showing to neutralize the omicron variant, we are switching from Moderna to Pfizer and have our appts set! That means, if no new crazy variant comes out before the derby, I should be attending, woot!
I got a booster a few weeks ago. Last week I got a touch of the “Big O”. Two days mild but irritating since I have been staying home taking care of the misses. She had the same neck surgery I had and she is very irritable. She may die of unknown forces if I don’t get out soon. My first year in Seniors pool league. Finished third personally in the rankings. They taught me not to shoot at everything. Now I play like them. Wait, wait, wait until their balls are gone to run out. I make a great out last week and then shot the eight ball so weak that it didn’t make a rail or the pocket. Hahahahahaha. I have an official rating 587. Almost my age. Christmas snow again this year.

I haven’t gone for years. No time to play anyone unless you start at 1am. I don’t mind starting then but who ever you get to play wants to stop at 5 or something stupid like it. My seester lives there and I have a host of relatives that I wouldn’t visit. She was in the hospital last year in Memphis from a fall but she is still in favorable health. I would go if the main thing was to see her. I like sitting in the stands and watching the finals of the matches. She is doing well so I am staying home. If my wife wanted to go while she is off work, then we would go and she can visit and I can visit pool. White out conditions.

Looks like the rooms at the Casino are sold out. They still have rooms in town if anybody needs one.. Got my Moderna booster today. They give you a full dose instead of half if you have had cancer or underlying health problems so I got the full shot. Looking forward to it this year 😀

We did Moderna as well, got our boosters last week. Also found out my brother in law and sister in law both tested positive and he comes over 3x per week. My wife and I both feel fine luckily. I also saw the CDC just changed quarantine from 10 to 5 days so I am hoping that's a good sign but who the heck knows...

This issue of “ ball cleaning” is absurd. Shot clock pool in an anomaly. I can’t think of a sport where ball cleaning in professional sports is an issue. Football is an example. Clean balls are placed at the line of scrimmage at the before each down. Baseballs are replaced at the pitchers insistence. In golf there is lift clean and place After inclement weather. Tennis balls have a very short life span.

Why can’t pool come up with a universal rule/procedure regarding ball cleaning! It’s not rocket science. The accumulation of chalk is no different than mud, water or an imperfection caused from the ball being flawed from hitting a foreign object or normal play.

With this significant increase in Covid cases I just had to cancel my reservations just now. Feeling sad, hope to meet up with you guys next year. So there may be a slot open under the group code now

If you are willing to stay on the southern part of the state, bunch of little motels. Not as much fun, pick your spots.
