I'm sure it's almost automatic that they've decided to chop. $39K for combined 1st & 2nd, so $19.5K apiece --minus the dough to whomever put up their entries-- ain't too shabby...

Consequently it would likely be a better finals if it were another twosome.

Certainly none of my business, but for the sake of possible discussion:

For those who know or would speculate:

If there were an entry fee sponsor, would he recoup only his investment?

If there is a % split..is it on some 'net' amount?

How is that 'net' amount determined?

Do both players play to win, and then split, then re-split with any sponsor?

Will 30% come off the top for 'alien' federal tax withholding?

Any state tax required to be withheld from the prize money?

Is this a PM subject?

I would think it is.

For what its worth I can assure you that both these players are trying to win in spite of whatever incentives there may be. I have spoken to both Reyes and Bustamante and im convinced that the player that finishes second will not be as happy as the winner.

Its been a very good tournament all the players played well z nd are happy with the format and prize money, they would welcome more events like this one.

Good luck to all the players and I hope that more sponsors step to the plate for these great players.

It seems to me more likely that, if there was a deal, they would have evened it out 1st/2nd a bit, but still left a difference in place--maybe $25k/$14k. Otherwise, why not have Efren win and call it a day? Instead, they have to (get to?) play tonight.

I wouldn't imagine that they pre-decided which of them would win. Presumably each of the players certainly has substantial pride to where they'd each try hard to win. It's just that with the money split decided in advance, they wouldn't have to be concerned about who wins what amount of money. They could simply have an enjoyable contest without the money being a consideration.
