One of my favorite banks unless playing on a Diamond. They don't go on Diamonds, at least not for me.

...making the 2 ball in the side is a stiff. The shot you suggested Dennis, aint no moonshot. It's a big chance to win the game.
The Ghost would be reaching for his cash at this point.

To my eye, they way they lay, it looks as though the shooter would almost have to masse with right english into the 2-ball in order to get enough spin to get above the 9-ball. Might be a good choice anyway though, as long as the opponent is not left a cross-corner on the deuce when it's missed.

I'd be inclined to just bank the 2 over to my side above the 9, and leave whitey on A's long rail.

Au contraire - more likely I'd be collecting the cash.........that said...

You think this is such a lovely angle for the 2-railer do you?.....many a time I've seen guys scratch cross-side from this angle, because they thought they would load it up enough to get the cueball to the other side of the side pocket - but they didn't get there.....tell you what...

Since I've always backed up my shot choice opinions on here by being willing to play them out on an actual table...I'll be more than happy to play anybody my speed (or you yourself :)) some one ball one pocket from here for a few shekels > I spot them the first shot - and they shoot this 2-railer that you think so highly of, as the opening shot.....do I have action?...:)

I'd just 2-rail the 2 kinda towards the 9 leaving whitey frozen on the short rail next to A's pocket and wait for a bettetr opportunity.

I'm with you ghost. I've scratched enough on this shot to try it from that angle.

Dud, can you blame me?...if I'm walking along and there's some $$$ laying down there on the sidewalk in front of me, I've got to pick it up, now don't I?...:D

It's the same angle Dudley. With two balls left and me needing them both I'd shoot this every time. With one ball on the table it's not the correct shot and that tricky Ghost knows it:) .

P.S. The 2-railer banks long on Diamonds, at least the ones I've played on, so it's no good on them.

Charlie would have loved you, lad.

I think I would have to one-rail it up and back .... for inexpensive of course.

Removing the 9 ball changes the whole dynamic of the shot and the situation.

Beard

What I am waiting for is someone to reasonably answer the set of logical reasons I usually post with a shot choice. I spend all that time going over the mental gyrations that need to go into making a decision, especially under difficult conditions, and no shot challenger seems to want to address the logic of it all.

I am much too secure in my strategical conclusions to be concerned about challenges to my thought processes, stuff that has stood up for 40 years, but when no one can present a step by step opposing point of view, it's the guys trying to learn that are the casualties.

Beard

Ask the bank pool players that wont play Jet how much they like fading the strategies that I instilled in him last year. Remember, Jet aint no kid. Very few (if any) people suddenly become top players when they hit their 50s.

I recently learned that shot as well, but I almost never get my CB all the way over - at least, not without slamming the 9 so hard, if i miss, it comes all the way back up table somewhere. heh

Between Dennis #2 and Ace #3 I probably would of shot #3...Dennis's boldness has its appeal..BUT..if I miss and leave it on the short rail then there is a could chance Rod is bankin his game ball.
