Congratulations to Jim Tomassoni, for winning this years annual members only tournament (MOT) held at Q-Master Billiards in Virginia Beach, VA. Jim defeated Brian White 4-2 in the single race finals. In winning this year, Jim becomes our first two-time champion, having won at California Billiards in 2018. Third place went to Dominic Noe, fourth to Rob Leeper (our first Facebook qualifier to cash) and 5th/6th to Jonathan Hayes and John Richardson.
Thursday night kicked off with One Ball One Pocket, with 14 players, $50 entry. It was a race to 3 both sides and a single race to 4 finals. The locals apparently were a little more comfortable on the tables, although an awful lot of matches went to the hill. Jared Pitts squeezed out a hill-hill finals for 1st place over Troy Millier, 2nd place. Steve Freeman finished 3rd, winning in his words, “a popsicle”.
For the main event, we had 19 dedicated and talented players this year, ranging in age from under 20 to over 70, who traveled from places like Texas, New Hampshire and Louisiana. This was the first year we included active members of our Facebook group along with our forum members, so we welcomed several new players to our player group, along with a number of our usual attendees.
The prize fund was boosted by $200 donated by two players who had to cancel, but chose to add their entries. The auction raised $3115 in the calcutta. Big thanks to Steve Freeman for running the tournament, generally helping with everything, and even streaming most of the last days matches from his phone.
Q-Masters is an amazing poolroom — really more like four different poolrooms — each in separate rooms with different tables and functions. It takes two separate bars to service all those players! We had the Tournament Room with 15 Diamond tables, permanent bleachers, low ambient lighting and no music. Other rooms had leagues, other tournaments and raucous casual play going on, without any disturbance to our area at all. It’s impressive!
Our next members tournament will be a regional at our regular stop, Southaven Recreation just south of Memphis, the first weekend of November 2022.
