The Magician left fans and foes alike shaking their heads in wonder as the master of the cue ball won his final few matches in the Derby City Classic One Pocket division in dominating fashion. This was his fourth DCC One Pocket title in four tries, and it came against the largest field ever for a One Pocket event, 424 players. Jason Miller followed his Banks division win with an an impressive second place finish in the One Pocket, making him the favorite for this year’s all around crown.
When Efren handed Alex his first loss in the One Pocket division, with three players left Alex, Efren and Jason Miller were forced to draw cards for a bye into the finals. After a clutch draw of a king to tie Jason’s king in the initial draw, Alex drew a three to Jason’s four in the re-draw, giving Jason the bye, and forcing an Alex-Efren rematch to see who would face Miller for the title.
Efren has now won the One Pocket division all four times he has entered here at the Derby City Classic: 1999, 2004, 2005 and again this year.
