The undisputed contenders, such as Fr éd éric Caudron, Philippos Kasidokostas and a few strong Koreans had died along the way. David Zapata, an extremely modest player from the famous Spanish pool academy of Jos é Maria Quetglas, grew to the best shape of his young career and exploded in the best-paid tournament in the long history of the three-cushion.

David Zapata won the final with 5-4 after a titanic fight. With this he earned 220.000 euros against the runner-up, the number two, only 22.000 euros. The all or nothing competition of the truth caused an immense tension among the two billiards. Dong Koong Kang succumbed to that devastating pressure. David Zapata, known only as European junior champion so far in his career, rose to an altitude that gives him eternal glory in billiardland on a miraculous day in his pool life.

The Spaniard converted his class in the final into eisterable force and deed urge into the decisive set, in which the 4-4 intermediate score involved the grand prize of 220.000 euros or the consolation prize of 22.000 euros, his Korean opponent Putting in front of the firing squad as it were. The victory in that last set to 15 points, in two turns, with a great series of 12, brought the Spaniard to the highest state of euphoria. He is the first 'world champion of the PBA', the first player in history to write so much money into his bank account with one tournament.
