Lou we want, and we respect, good players here at onepocket.org -- we could use more! It is a double edged sword though, of course.

Steve, there is nothing double-edged about having top flight players here and playing in member's tournaments.

I doubt there is a man here who has a problem with a great player playing in member's event when he has been a participating member of the community. The problem develops when an above average player catches wind of a 1pocket member's tournament in their area and suddenly gets interested in the site. They have no history, they have no relationships, they punch the right number of posts, and after the event take off. Member's who might have otherwise stayed on the winner's side a little longer, even cashed, or at least had more opportunities to play other guys they know are the losers.

On the plus side -- this has yet to happen, as far as I know. It certainly is a great and prevalent fear however!!

But seriously, if you want to actually be a help regarding this obvious issue, how about creative suggestions for how to BOTH --encourage stronger players to get involved here, AND keep everybody happy about participating in the MOT's.

Now that Fargo Rate has established itself...simplest way is to limit to 700 and below.... we are amatuer players and I've assumed this isn't a open tournament..
A player like Ike is a 702... Brian is a 760...
None of our regular players are close to a 700 except maybe Ben . Mike 660, Robert 660 etc.

I'm asking because I don't know. Is part of the Fargo rating the number of events a player attends where the system is used?

Lets say a player that rarely plays in events, plays 2 or 3 events in a year and does very well, over .700. But in local or Non Fargo rated events he does not. Does that mean he is Really a +.700 player?

BTW, do All pool events Now keep Fargo stats?

I believe Ben has a higher Fargo than Ike. We have at least one more with a higher Fargo than Ike -- meaning over 700.

Who's over 700 that plays in our tournaments? I don't think Ben has a Fargo that I see. I just did a quick search tho. As far as I'm concerned new members still need to be vetted. Being a contributing member over the prior year is my go to for new members.

Agree. Andy and his wife were perfect hosts at Southaven offering up the best of southern hospitality. Andy would fit right in, but amazingly we have not heard from him after he won the Mot tourney. A perfect example, even though prior to the tournament he was fairly active.

Bill, I believe if you had been there at Southern Rec last fall when Andy won, you would feel completely differently. He fit right in just fine and was a pleasure to be around. He won, but even if you had a calcutta the next day, he might not have gone at the top -- it was a very competitive tournament all around, but he came out on top. Comforts of home might have helped lol , but I thought he fit right in, both in terms of personality and style of play!

If I had a room and played pro speed, I would love for a bunch of keyboard champion amateurs to have their tournament at my room. I also have heard you guys love to gamble and I’ll throw in some beers and food while you fill my room. Yes it might inconvenience a few of my regulars but the overall benefits are great. And I get to play as a bonus.
Of course the tournament was competitive. Everyone except one had a chance. Ben shoots well enough to go to pro tournaments and he got cleaned up twice. If you think you have a chance against the owner, I will put him in against anyone who was there. Sorry Steve, I hate to disagree, but I like to watch the pros nowadays not throw my money at them. Those days are gone for me.

‘Entertainment includes meal during hunting and fishing for Newkirk’.
Medical $75 a day. Call $3000. So let’s say you play for $10000, $10% fee, $3000. The winner goes home with $6000 and is declared the King of OPOrg for one year. Loser has the option to challenge
before anyone else. The winner cannot be challenged until the runner-up has been beaten.

I can’t find Ben’s FargoRate, besides that, FargoRate doesn’t apply to 1P per say but an overall skill level. My guess is over 700 is good shortstop or lower level pro speed. I played a 709 in Austin some 1P not long ago, he gave up and wanted to only play 9B. I got trashed in rotation.

Brian White played in at least one of Buffalo’s pro tournaments, he’s a lot better than Ike.

New members with low or no post counts need to be vetted in order to play in our tournaments. The post count/6 month qualification doesn't work but along with a known vetting process its a start.... Its obvious that in order to make these tournaments work we can't have our players upset every time we have one. I really don't see a down side to disallowing new players that are above even our highest players. A 760 is a pro... Allowing him to play will loose more players and posters than gain them...
If you use the J.R. argument we could have had a vetting process where we asked our local players what skill level and type person he was. We wouldn't have had a problem with his entry if he was handled right to start.
Lets finally fix this.

Going forward, I don't have a problem with using Fargo to set a higher member activity bar. That would work to a degree -- at least until a really good but stealthy One Pocket player who has avoided Fargo signs up I think for this MOT, I'm still reluctant to make a change on the fly, but it could well be that B White will bow out on his own, like Ike did last year.
