You’re better off at Griffs than Cue club. In Phoenix area, Main Street has plenty of great players.

Michaels north of Cincinnati.
Second the vote for Main Street Billiards. Get in the action pit. There's three Diamonds with 4.25" pockets setup by the best mechanic in the business.

You mentioned Texas. For a small room that I call pool player heaven, check out John Wesley's Pickpocket Billiards in Big Spring, Texas. Words can't do it justice.

I have been in 11 of them. All great rooms. Tulsa had Magoo's and Tulsa Billiard Palace, both great rooms and a great owner.
I'd recommend what used to be called Sandite Billiards in the Tulsa metro. Better maintained equipment than Magoo's although you ought to hit them both.

In OKC, Bill's is fantastic. All the action anyone could want.

Tulsa Billiard Palace is long gone, but Magoo's is still hopping. Forty tables. They redid the Gold Crowns for One Pocket a year or two ago and they were playing fantastic at that time.

Thanks I’ll add those

At one time, Shooters in Olathe, Kansas, would have been at the top of anybody's list. That was when Evelyn and Danny Dysart were putting on their Midwest One Pocket events. It's less lively now but you should still check it out just for the chance to watch David Matlock play 3-Cushion every night. The equipment is still good--tight pockets--and they have a day rate of $7. You have to pay for a $10 annual membership but that's mostly a formality.

Most of the action in Kansas City is at Side Pockets North now. Be aware that Side Pockets is a chain of rooms across the KC metro and each place is different. You want Side Pockets North. Also good Diamond equipment.

Just a shell of what it once was, but you might as well see Raytown Recreation while you're in the KC metro. Real old-time pool room with lots of history and stories. Go during the daytime.

I hesitate to recommend Pockets in Tucson because it was one of the least friendly places I visited on the road, but on its merits it's worth adding to your list for Arizona. LOTS of top notch One Pocket players, plenty of action, pristine equipment and surprisingly the best food I ever got in a pool room.

It's also where I picked up the name Rabbi Hippie. It was intended as an insult as soon as I walked in the door, but I liked it anyway because it kinda fit.

You are right about the changes at Shooters. I go there once a year, but always. a week after my membership as expired.

I was at Pockets Super Bowl night. Bad timing, there was no action that night.

Big Dog Billiards in Des Moines is already on your list, but it's the nicest room in the country as far as I'm concerned. Best equipment and $10 rate for six hours. Lots of enthusiastic One Pocket players, one of the best being the owner Randy. Big Dog would be a great location for a regional MOT.

I didn't say much about it, but of all the rooms I'd like to revisit, John Wesley's Pick Pocket in Big Spring, Texas, would be at the top of the list. John Wesley used to post here occasionally. I didn't meet him when I was there, but he works in the oil industry and the room is very much a labor of love for him. Marble floors, cloth and balls cleaned after every use, Billiards memorabilia all over the place. Classiest small room in the country. It's in West Texas, close to Odessa. You'll notice the flames in the sky at night from the oil rigs.

Again, words or pictures can't do it justice. But here's an old thread about the place ...

I say this as someone who's NOT a native Oklahoman ... playing One Pocket in Tulsa or OKC is like eating brisket in Texas. You only thought you had brisket before. After you've experienced the real thing, anything less is a disappointment.

Which is only natural since those two cities are where One Pocket was born.

Don't worry about not getting enough action at Magoo's in Tulsa or Bill's in OKC. Chester's is another place in OKC to hit. Anyone you play is going to be tough to beat.
