....I play mainly in bar tourneys...no pool hall here....onepocket is non existant....so to play my favorite game....I have to be inovative.....I make 'em play.....8 ball bank the last pocket...when it comes down to the both of you on the 8 ball...(about 8 out of 10 games)....who likes the game........the onepocket player..of course...lol..

Eight Ball is a great game and it has a combination of all the other games. Eight ball is one of my favorite games. And I have allways played shoot to hit the ball. No cue ball in hand. It makes the game to easy when you get cue ball in hand and all players do is lock up the cueball were you get cue ball in hand and run out. I never had a problem playing shoot to hit your ball. And if you are playing a player who is looking to take advantage of the rule shoot to hit your ball then get a refaree and let him make the call and then you can get cue ball in hand. If the referre doesnt think you tried to hit your ball. JUst like in baseball the pitcher throughing at the batter. If the umpire thinks the pitcher is throwing at the batter then he gets ejected. But eight ball is a great game. And I would say their are more people playing pool in the bars then the pool rooms.

...hmmmm...your probably right...the only cure for my hate....would be to score a..."really big win" ...in 8 ball.....maybe I can find a drunk to spot me 2 games in a race to 3......that might work....lol...

I agree with Artie. If you really hate the game...don't play it.
Last pocket, or bank the 8, should give you some advantage.
If it doesn't, you need to find a new joint.

I like last pocket

8 Ball is one of the few games where there is a definite route to out for a high speed player, and last pocket 8 ball is even better. Even though we have all lost an occasional game to a guy who has no position on his desired next ball, and just shots up in the air and takes the easiest shot there.
That stuff changes with last pocket - an average bar player or league player should give up 1-2 shots per game, where a truly decent player should string a few together, all from mapping backwards your plan before hooting....

I'm like Cowboy it was the worst thing to happen in pool , one foul ball in hand !! It took the shotmaking skill out of nine ball and it makes 8 ball a joke with ball in hand !! I use to love 9 ball and now I just about throw up watching the game . The only way to play was roll out and see who had the best skills to make the right decisions on when to shoot and when to not shoot . The game was filled with pressure and you could break your opponent down . Today you just duck and play safe when you get out of line and snooker your opponent if possible . WOW !!! Nine ball was mean't to be a shooting game mostly where you could see some great run outs , not anymore I hardly see anyone shooting from that end rail with a making killer shot and then run out . I loved to roll out that killer shot and my opponent tell me shoot and drill it in and run out !! That was nine ball !!

It also eliminated the spot shot on the nine, one of the greatest pressure shots in pool - easy in practice but oddly unnerving for the cheese. And it gave birth to the jump shot and those infernal jump cues, the only upside of which is the unparalleled satisfaction you get from freezing the cb to a blocker when playing a guy who depends on jumping his way out of a hook.

That's also where the gals from the local fashion college would go - 200 rich, gorgeous, lonely women who always struck out with the frats because it would piss the sorority girls off if the frat boys paid them any attention. Well, that left little ol' me and a couple of ther guys, basically.

They finally wound up putting a fence around the fashion college apartments and posting a guard after 10 pm to keep me off premesis. Well, that's what some of the girls told me, anyway.

Man, those were the days! I always came away a winner at pool and usually got laid afterwards besides.
