ok heres another situation scots ahead 4-2 in balls 3-1 in games
its eferns shot. efren just made a nice shot on the six into his pocket he was stuck behind the 6 in the kitchen and made the ball and kicked the 8 from scotts side rail to how you see the layout now.
the 8 passes the 5. efren decides to shoot the 4 by the spot which has more distance than the 5 0r 8. and also moves the 15 towards scotts hole.
why do you think he chose that shot?? instead of the 5 or 8?? or 9??
btw he made it and ran out.

Larry, I'm thinking maybe he did not feel good about 5 or 8 ..if he missed he leaves a lot of open shots for Scott..not so much with the 4

BTW it looks like from this angle that the 15 might go more to left maybe halfway between corner and side pocket ..hard to tell

imo - He was just opening up the balls for an easy runout. The only trouble spot was those balls near the spot and this shot solves that.

The 4 ball is the correct shot to shoot, especially if you need a lot of balls. By shooting the 4 ball with a draw stroke you will open up a shot on the 15 ball with position options. As you can clearly see that once the 4 ball is pocketed there are 5 more balls that can be easily negotiated, especially by a player with Reye's skills. Shooting the 5 ball, which may be a slightly easier shot doesn't give you automatic position, you may move the 8 ball and block the pocket for both the 8 and the 9 ball. If you do shoot the 5 ball you could end up straight on the 9 ball and then have another problem. If you choose the 8 ball to shoot which imo is as tough as the 4 ball to pocket you will not be in as a good position as you would if the 4 ball was chosen. The 9 ball should not be an option imo.

The 4 ball is the correct shot to shoot, especially if you need a lot of balls. By shooting the 4 ball with a draw stroke you will open up a shot on the 13 ball with position options. If you choose the 8 ball to shoot which imo is as tough as the 4 ball to pocket you will not be in as a good position as you would if the 4 ball was chosen. The 9 ball should not be an option imo. Also if you pocket the 4 ball you will then clear the balls from the table that your opponent can easily pocket in his pocket if given the chance. So by clearing the 4, 13, and 10 ball first, you will be in a better position if you have to play safe.

If he shoots the 5 2 things could go wrong. If he misses it all the balls go in Scotts pocket. He could make it, hit the 8 and tie up the 9-8. If he shoots the 8 he could wind up straight in on the 9. If he misses the 4 it could block out the bank and he's gonna be safe. If he makes it he gets some balls.

Looks like maybe Efren drew the 4-ball a little, so the stripe went off Scott's side rail to end up where it did? If so, Efren might have been kinda playing the cut shot-carom bank to send that stripe into a position to later shoot in his own hole, given he needs six balls, but didn't end up bouncing the strip out very far. NO worries, though, since there are still 5 open balls if he can get topside of the 5-8-9...

He needed 6 balls. Had to move something, and this opened up the last ball he would need. The rest are already in place/play.
