The DCC has maxed out on the number of players per event, so they can't acquire more money that way. According to the online pro commentary, many of the pros will not attend because the purses are too small to warrant the expenses. If the pros stop coming, so will many of the participants.

The only solution I can see is to raise the entry fee-- certainly the main fee, and see how that affects the buy-backs. Guys are already spending a grand or more, so why not kick up the fee to $250 or $300?

The amateurs make the event! Raising the rates on the amateurs will be the end of the Derby. The Pros complaining are the ones that don't have any heart to grind out tough action. SVB and Shaw both quit during matches from what I understand.

The Derby to finish on time, or an actual Saturday evening finish, the 9 ball must go back to a race to 7. If you pair 2 average players (550) together in a race to 9 with the 9 on the spot, I'm betting they don't complete the race before the 2 hour mark. Even the top pros take almost 2 hours to complete a race to 9. How many 9 ball matches took 30 minutes or less to complete? I'll wait.
I agree with this ^^^. In addition do away with the Big Foot 10ball tourney. It will not only speed up the tourney it will allow Accustats to stream more banks and 1pocket because they will start w/the 9 footer in the arena.

I get it, but I look at the complaining about money as sour grapes. Filler made $52k for 10 days grind in a very soft field of players.

Yes, they would have to hold aside any matches that had one player with a buyback and one player without a buyback. But if both players had a buyback or neither player had a buyback that part they have figured out. What they do is put a placeholder (or two) in the draw representing those matches. But that could still be a big help!!
They do this already to an extent. Thats what the “TBD” (to be determined) is about after all the names in the scheduled matches chart.

Greg has asked for solutions for years. They will not do what is needed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nothing has ever finished according to schedule at the casino

Do you remember getting the blame because of the HOF dinner that year?

It doesn’t take a genius to see that they can’t accomplish what they want to in the time they have.
The math isn’t that hard, knowing how many tables they have, how long the matches should be and the amount of rounds to finish never changes. 🤷🏻‍♂️
They pick numbers out of thin air and have tried to make it work. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Did the OP, which started on Sunday, finish on schedule w/ final rds. @ 2;00 pm Thursday? Final Match @ 8;00 pm.
If not, then why not? If so, was it because of the new phase ins?

Were the OP matches called @ the 4 hr. mark?

The if not, and the if so could be hard to determine for the OP event run in part coinciding with banks and 9-ball.
thanks, Whitey

The only proffesional tournament ever to draw 400+ onepocket and over 400 bank players. Nobody else can even come close... Shaw quit down 5-0 to BBuddy Filler. The fact he says he will never play again pleases me to no end.
The simple fact they can even pull off scheduling all these matches with 1300 entries and 2 or 3 seperate events going on simultaneously is amazing.
The biggest thing that happened this year was the streaming. Simply incredible all these free streamers got together and worked together behind the scenes to pull off showing that many side tables. And when it started off rocky they worked together to get it done. Big Big props go out to all them for doing this for us. I hope they can continue to work together at upcoming events. This is the way you grow pool. Getting people watching.

Why not do a side pot for the players interested say 1000.00
That would get your prize $ up in a hurry.

That's what I'd do.. Work on both problems. Drop big foot shit and have side super pots for each event, so people like Ralph Souquet or Archer, who don't like banks and One Pocket, can still get in on it.... For the ones who like it all,, I won't start naming names, but the usual suspects that wanted more action, and pay four places or so, but those guys would be in the smaller pots also, but they would pay entries into both. How many would enter the super pots. 30? 40? more? And all these players saying they not coming back... They be bacK!!

Yes, this year was the best. I watched so many things. I'd have at least 3 pages open. Always one on Collins. One on Action room. I Wish Scooter had played more.. He's something else.. The Doggin it guys were another. Collins had some thing with the cam on the lights, causing the table to appear to be swinging.. lol.,So I would switch off to another table sometimes just because of that, but that is a quick cheap fix, for next time. I like when they play all night way into the next day. It adds to the excitement for me.. The players just need to keep a 'snapper' or two in your case, like a preludin, or desoxyn (back in the day) to help you finish strong. I don't know what they have now available. Adderall? Didrex? You might need 3 or 4 or those. yuck....Just make sure it's pharmaceutical, so you don't get poisoned by fent that some imbecile in the white house has allowed to flood the nation. Another good one was The SharkStream. You had the old BilliardNet.. Anyway I subbed and hit notifications on all of them, and I'm leaving them on..!!!! The Omega Billiards TV was a channel with a free action room. I gave all the thumbs up, shares etc I could.. Hope it helped their algorithms....I think Collins made out pretty good. I know he did, unless he blew it gambling...

The 1 pocket isn't the problem. The 9 ball started on Wednesday and ended Sunday morning at 10 am. They played almost 25 hours non-stop to finish the 9 ball. The original event went from race to 7 to a race to 9. Almost every 9 ball match I'm betting went at least 2 hours or more. The 9 ball is the time killer.

But that's one guy out of dozens of pros.

SVB was complaining that he recently finished 2nd in one division and got paid $7,500. After expenses, maybe not so good.

Right, drop the Bigfoot.

My recollection is that Greg started that because he wanted to push the use of 10' tables. I'd say that ship has sailed.

Plus Filler got 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st and MOT to make that money which isn’t correct anyway (it’s more).

Fedor would be next and didn’t come close to that.

How does pool distinguish pros from amateurs? Where is the demarcation line? When an amateur wins $$’s at an event does he/she maintain their amateur status. There’s criteria in golf. Nothing in pool. Pool is probably the least structured of all sports. It’s a free for all. i don’t see things changing. It’s always been a rouge sport.

Then I guess their other option is to travel to Indonesia and play with all the other champions. Not sure how those expenses compare to what the prize fund is, but I'd say it's worse than derby. SVB made 5x or more than his expenses for Derby week

Pointing to the most difficult (and costly) variable to change isn't going to help very much.

It would also be nice if they added a million dollars and had 300 referees and catered the event and had one of those cute girls with the round number placards that pranced around the table between racks.

Just playing with the idea of using a standard double elimination format, with over 256 players you would need a 512 man bracket, and with the one loss side needing twice the rounds that the winner's side does to finish, that would be even a longer tournament than we already have. So forget that unless you are cutting way back on the numbers.

Like Jerry said, start earlier each day and run later would help. Get earlier commitments on the buy backs would have to help some. limit the fields or the races or put some additional tables in a parking lot temporary structure, or???
