This is the reason I wish that poolactiontv had the ability for us to watch matches that we could not see without viewing the entire stream if available. I heard this was a good one.
I agree. They seem to be way behind in flexibility on both live streaming and prior recordings. I hope Ray is working on an improvement in that regard.

The Gorst/Calderon match started at about 12:30 am and ended 5½ hours later at about 6:00 am (New Orleans times).
Bill they were still calling 9 ball matches at 3am!! I was laughing about that.

btw - since you weren’t there, jakie and I had to play a session in your honor. Started at noon and stopped at 4:am with one 10 minute food break. Nothing like it. So much fun.

Congratulations to T-Rex Tony Chohan the first player to ever win Buffalos $2000 entry Pro One Pocket event three times and win it two years in a row.
This event just just keeps getting bigger and better every year.
It was a great week of of big action matches and the best One Pocket tournament of the year.

Would love to see it

It was a good one for sure. I liked when they got testy at each other about spotting a certain ball. The ball clearly went on the spot without being up against any other ball, but one would spot it and the other would pick it back up and spot it, then the other. It was amusing. I think they were so tired that they weren't thinking rationally...Then Calderon just laughed it off and walked away.

Buffalos Pro Classic has become the premier event in one pocket. The action is non stop, the biggest names in pool are there, and the calcutta has become stuff of legends. It started on Sunday night when the gamblers started filing in. On Sunday night, we were treated to John Morra vs. Little John one pocket for about 40K. Monday, Lil John got a small adjustment and they bet 60K. Then on Tuesday, the final adjustment came and John Morra took it off for another 50K +. John Morra started 100K to the good before the one ball one pocket started! Then the one ball event started and the blind bid, Billy Thorpe beat dark horse Robbie Langford for the crown, so Billy had 8.6k to the good before the main event started. Then the calcutta started, with the first blind bid going for 16K and the second blind bid going for 14K! When the smoke cleared, there was over 150K in the calcutta for the 28 players.

Play began Thursday night, and Friday. Then Carl Bolm showed up with his entourage. He played some 9 ball with Alex Calderon, and the set was for 112K total. After a slow start, Alex won the 5 ahead, pocketing over 70K for his work, as he bet most of the money himself, very unusual for a pool player. But Calderon is a legendary after hours specialist, and he knew he had a pretty good game, even though he was spotting Carl the 6,8 and the last four and every break on the bar table. Carl was a good sport, and said he would be back for Saturday. True to his word, he came back, but Calderon was still in the tournament and could not get away to play, which allowed Warren Kiamco to step up. Warren had been knocked out of the one pocket by Earl Strickland, so his misfortune turned into his great luck. Warren gave the 6,7,8 and the last four to Carl, and easily won the 5 ahead set, winning 88K for his fans and himself.

On the b side of the action, Tedder won over 100k racing the 10 ball ghost and getting 2-1 on the money. And Alex Lely and Robbie Langford had an epic race to 6 for about 22K, going down to the last two balls. Robbie needed two and had one in his pocket. Alex had a decision to make. He could cross bank the ten ball for the win, or make Robbie's ball and play for the last ball. Exhausted by the high intensity of the one pocket match, Alex bet on himself and cross banked the winner with perfect speed to win the double hill match. The cheer that went up rivalled any previous crowd noise at the tournament, as many of the gamblers had made side bets on the match. Lely capped a very successful week, playing after hours action every night of the week and foregoing the tournament. Finally, on Sunday before the tournament resumed, Stakehorse Justin and West Bank John played a race to 6 one pocket for 115K. John was giving 8-7, and won 6-4. This match was pretty close and I would not be surprised to see a rematch. At the end of the week, Morra, Calderon, Tedder, Kiamco and WB John each won north of 80K at the event. Now you know why all the players look forward to Buffalos every year. It is the one place on earth where a player can make a huge score even if he doesn't win the tournament.

Now back to the tournament. This year, we had 28 players, so the tournament was paying 6 places. Because we were playing a 32 player bracket, this required three matches be played on Saturday by the one loss side. While Pagulayan dispatched Evan Lunda 5-3 in about 4 hours, Fedor Gorst and Alex Calderon played a tense, 5.5 hour match that ended at 5:30 am, with Fedor surviving a 3-0 deficit to win double hill. The one pocket was remarkable, with Calderon coming out of the shadows to show his true speed, which is elite. Fedor got about six hours sleep before he had to come back for his Sunday noon match. Pagulayan showed his championship pedigree, defeating the talented Russian 5-2. Then Alex got to play Josh Roberts, who had defeated him 5-0 previously. This time, though, Alex got his revenge, winning 5-3. Roberts settled for 3rd place, his first cash at Buffalos after seven years. He has turned the corner in his career and is now firmly in the top 10. The finals were Pagulayan's third match of Sunday, and he was wearing the mental stress of the moment. Tony Chohan was fresh, and took the match to the hill, before making a circus shot to take the ball count lead 5-0. After some volleys, Pags had a do or die shot and missed, allowing Tony to claim the title. Chohan pockets 30K for the tournament and 65K for the calcutta, a record, making the sixth player at the event to win north of 80K. Pagulayan settled for second, winning 20K for the tournament and 45K for the calcutta.

A great event and everyone was happy at our sport. We have come a long way since 2015 when Buffalo first had the pro classic at the dingy old Buffalos on Airline Highway.

Excellent report, Joe. I have never even come close to seeing so much action at one event. It was good seeing you and exciting to hear about what you have hopefully planned for the future. Really exciting! Mitch
