wwyd's in this new version of onepocket.org

Well, I don't know, and I hope not, but...

It looks to me like the first wwyd that I posted up in this new updated onepocket.org, might be onepocket.org's version of the proverbial "the canary in the coal mine" - and in this case, the canary having died...meaning...

My last several wwyd's before the onepocket.org update, had between 42 and 90 posts/responses - as they always have over the past months/years...

Conversely, this first wwyd that I posted up in the new updated onepocket.org, after several days, has just 11 responses...

I believe the reason for this significant drop in responses to my last wwyd is because of the new updated onepocket.org = I think that the missing posters find that navigating and posting up in this updated onepocket.org wwyd is: too hard to figure out/too convoluted/confusing/visually unappealing (too busy), and because of all of that, too time consuming, and resulting in frustration...

...and the fact that it takes work to engage here now, (work, which we all have enough of in our lives, and which we come here to get a respite from), takes away the fun that the simplicity and familiarity of the old version had for us (beatle, amongst several others, have come out and said words similar to this)...

And I see an analogy here - that being: comparing onepocket.org changing everything away from the comfortable old version..to how all of us who have been going to the DCC for the last 15-20 years feel about having had to change and go to the rip-off/not nearly enough tables provided to gamble on, Horseshoe casino , instead of to the old, beloved, Executive West for the DCC tournament.

All of that said....I have several more wwyd's saved up, but I don't feel it makes sense to post them up right now, since it doesn't look like participation will happen...I guess, regrettably, I'll have to just stay in 'wait and see' mode for awhile...

Would be glad to hear youse guys opinions/comments re. what I've postulated here.

Ghost,

I find the new interface confusing as well.

Ghost, I think the participation will normalize once people feel more comfortable navigating the new formats. I don't know if it's more problematic posting the wwyds or not, but viewing them and commenting will increase when people can see the posted pictures better. I believe CK said he's working on that.

But I was very happy and comfortable with the old style, and I almost never like change. Presumably it was decided that the format had to be upgraded in order to accommodate the hand-held users-- the lazy duffs that are moving too fast to sit down with a laptop or desktop...:D But I suppose that's the way "progress" works. And your analogy was apt re the old DCC venue. It might even be said that the change is similar to the new aggressive style of play by the turks, in contrast to the older grinding game.

I'm not a huge fan as of right now, it may grow on me in time.

We are trying to improve it -- I think it's a lot better than when the new software first kicked in, but still needs more.I think that so far, those who navigate from their phones probably like it a bit more than those who are used to PC viewing. Hopefully we can get it to where both methods like it!

In the mean time thank you for persevering!!

Fellas…

I’m not a big fan of “new” either…. However, we collectively and conceptually have to understand that a 10 year old software/platform (a dinosaur in techno world) has to be inevitably upgraded. It is what it is….

Steve also wants it to be more mobile device friendly – we’ll appreciate it in the long run.

It's new, but in a few months, it will be old hat....

Cincy will get the bugs worked out…when hasn’t he? (while doing it all for free).

No worries.

:)

It has taken me this long to figure out how to reply to a post, I don't mind change but I don't see any benefit to this other than it is different, maybe if I knew the problems it solved I would be more inclined to adapt.

The last thing I need in my life right now is more things to figure out. If most of you old guys are like me , you don't know how to work your phone either.

Cincy s a good egg, and I’m sure he’s working towards a favorable upgrade for one pocket.org...
I resist change also, and despise unfamiliarity, but apparently it was needed, c’est la vie...
I haven’t been visiting that often of late, but when I do, I really enjoy the opportunity of trying to figure out your wwyd’s... Stick around, you’re deeply appreciated by everyone, regardless of recent participation....

Seems like the older you get the less change is easily accepted. I also understand the need to update software. I don't really post a lot but do enjoy the wwyd posts.

Even though my user name is "oldschool1478" and I am in fact 71 years old, I make it a point to try to learn a new trick every day. Brains need to be exercised to stay strong. This old dog likes the new format.

I agree with Ghost and others that find this rework of our site different, but fail to see it as improving anything. Ido not mean this to be critical of CK at all. I for one do not have a smart phone, I use a flip phone. This forum is made up of a lot of 60, 70, and 80 somethings that are more interested in ease of use than keeping up with technology. I am one who Ghost refers to as I can figure out how to view and respond to a WWYD, but it is more work and it is not as enjoyable to look at pictures and banter back and forth as it used t be; perhaps that pleases some.:lol:rolleyes:

Why upgrade? Maybe Cincy can send you all a link to the release notes, so you can take one look at it and then say never mind it?s too technical to read. . Be careful what ya wish for! 10 years worth of security updates and minor bug fixes isn?t a smooth read IMO. I?m just glad he?s willing to do the work as upgrades never seem to go as smooth as in theory. Sounds like this one was more work than he hoped for. Maybe some support from the group would make it easier for him to work the ?overtime?...I?m very thankful that he fixed the Tapatalk bugs so fast, but the site is mobile friendly so it?s doable either way once the minor image issues get fixed.

Where is the WWYD ? Duh.
I don't know what happened to the wwyd and the pics Rod, but I think I know what's going on...I'm pretty sure it was the Russians that took it down  because they know that I support the Ukraine - this post may disappear also

I still don't see #'s on the individual posts. Is it just me, is there something I need to do to get the #'s to show?

If you are looking in "LATEST ACTIVITY" mode, it does not show them, only in "POSTS" mode.

Thanks Mark! I dont even know where the notes are since we not only upgraded to the next version but we were on 3.8.7, so then it went to 3.8.8, then 3.8.9...etc.

So when they released 4.0 it would have addressed a lot of stuff, same as when they got into the 5's...

No prob on the tapatalk, glad it's working!

To be honest, I am still trying to figure out what is confusing anyone so I can try to fix it.

Besides having the issue with the photo uploads, what else could be causing people any problems at all?

The forum still has threads you can view and/or reply to. The site has always had stickies, so that's not different...just trying to figure out where the confusion is... I mean it has different colors and stuff but its pretty much the same as far as functionality...
