Wow, darmoose, that takes a lot of courage to tackle something like refinishing a custom cue like the ones you did!! I am impressed!!!!

Please post a link to one of the super glue finishing videos that you watched that helped you get those results -- double wow!!!

Here's another project I been working on for the past couple of weeks. Did a little research. Ordered materials from Cue Components and set up my personal lathe and had at it. The lathe is my variable speed electric drill mounted on a bench vice. The other end is a wood block with a few holes to be able to spin shafts and a slot to hold the butt pin to be able to spin the butt.

Lots of sanding and the finish is Cue components special odorless thin "gold cyanoacrylate" (super glue). Lots of trepidation about applying a super glue finish, but I finally decided how hard could it be.  Watched a few good instructional videos on you tube, also bought a set of wet sanding micro pads which were great. These gave an incredibly slick smooth glass finish.

The wrapless cue is a Captain Bob Manzino, that Bob made for me in 1995, one of his first 3-4 cues he made. Today Bob is a very accomplished high quality cue maker who has won a few top awards a cue shows like in Las vegas. His cues can go as high as $ 10, 20, 30 g's to collectors. Course mine was no where near to any of that, lucky me.:giggle:

The wrapped cue is a 1920 vintage brunswick titleist conversion done by Wayne Fincher in Seattle that I picked up a couple of years ago. Came with three new shafts, all white is ivory. The piece on the lathe is one of two mid extensions that I sometimes use, and I was fitting them to each cue as well as finishing them also.

I was pretty pleased at how these came out, each has about 18-20 coats of finish, and surprised at how easy this actually was to
do.View attachment 430913View attachment 430914View attachment 430915
Looks great! I had a friend apply a super glue finish on my old Schrager as he was able to do it while keeping the leather wrap. It turned out great, but added about .2+ oz to the weight. It was noticable to me. Does the weight of your refinished butts feel different to you?

Again, nice job.

Thanks Steve, but I'm not that sophisticated to be able to post links. 🙃 Just go on you tube and search "refinishing cue" the first video that comes up for me is a 1;18 hour long of a pro putting on an epoxy and cyanoacrylate finish. If you mimic his work you can accomplish his results. If you go on Cue Components website and search around you'll find "College of cue building" which if you scroll down you will find "finishing cues" where they discuss three ways to proceed. I chose not to use the epoxy and only use the super glue. You will find their special glue in the "quality adhesives" section of their site.

I have seen a lot of refinished cues and I would put these finishes up against any I've seen. Did them in my garage on my work bench with a home made drill/lathe. The super glue is a great finish. It's easy and very forgiving. If you make any kind of mistake you just sand it out and apply more finish glue, then sand and polish. The wet sanding with micromesh is the secret.IMG_20200509_162552.jpgIMG_20200509_162449.jpgIMG_20200509_162158.jpgIMG_20200509_162152.jpg

Thanks Dave,

I cannot notice a difference in weight, but I don't have a scale to check. As for a wrap, I just covered my wrap with duct tape while sanding and applying the finish. I was surprised at how easy the whole process was, just took some patience and care. I was also surprised as to how forgiving the super glue was, if I made a slip I just sanded and reapplied over it. No need to remove the glue already applied, just go over it, sand and polish, perfect. :)

Finishing the three bears, weeding the garden, cutting grass, and eagle watching. Tried the glue method one time, but the brush got stuck in my moustach

Last couple of weeks. My first table. Reconditioned a 7ft with K66 procut extended rails and installed a longer beam to make room in my shop for it. Besides having to re locate a ton of stuff, starting to come together now. Still have to hang a bunch of my stuff on the walls, build a wall rack for cues, custom light and some kind of streaming platform.20200510_121958.jpg20200510_121936.jpg

Did you do all the woodwork? Paneling for a PO room is the nuts. I have been hanging stuff on my walls for two years and we are still unpacking. I don’t know about pool anymore. Going to crowded places for a couple of years or until the end is not likely for me. And I hate to practice. Everyone I know plays better than me now days so me inviting people over is a challenge. I hope I don’t end up being one of those destinations that I use to go. This stay at home is a struggle but I see people adapting. Once a week we go to the store and being gone that long makes me nervous. On the way home we saw a church service (or small moms day gathering) with people in their cars and someone on a stage. Lots of restaurants are open, to go only. Vaccines may be on the way and at least that will be a camouflage against this virus. With a vaccine, we send a message to the bugs that we already carry them. Not such a good host. With the interaction of bats/humans being more common, we have to expect new bugs. The warmer climate will not help.
anyway, I digress. You are so productive John, bee keeper, builder, pool genius. I am envious for all your energy and creativity. Is that a 3 1/2X 7? Get your camera set up.

Well Im bored but Ive been retired for a very long time and Im used to just relaxing. I have been doing a few special thinks like working in the yard, eating a lot of food both good stuff and junk and Ive been making my snakes. For the last 20 years or so Ive been searching in washes in the desert looking for roots that are the right size and shapes that I can fashion into my snakes. To give you an idea in 22 years Ive made 52 snakes, but in the last 3 months Ive made 5. here are some pics of my recent creations along with a pic of a root right from the desert. By the way each snake hasnam K90005EF0-8631-4072-9D5B-3067D2BF3106.jpeg90005EF0-8631-4072-9D5B-3067D2BF3106.jpeg1AB42DFA-E2C4-4B5A-A370-79CFDFC37D66.jpegAE2E0E6E-2C0A-45F6-9F16-8D153D6855D4.jpeg445A67B0-7324-4FE4-87B3-6B7C72BB9A93.jpegA89E10A9-1456-4E15-B764-5DC8B082EAEE.jpeg564F206C-393E-4A2E-AB51-D6F02B1F128E.jpeg

Those are very distinctive, Keith! If you ever wanted to offer them for sale, I bet you'd sell a bunch.

Keith, those snakes are very cool, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of Aboriginal art, have you spent time in Australia?

Peace.
