While at the Derby I dropped someone off at the airport and thought, hell I'll check out the old Executive West for kicks and memories.
I parked at the back (the outside is the same) and walked in the door and whoa! They did a really nice job remodeling everything. The old bar is completely gone, the swimming pool area had a wall built across half of it so the old open part is a big meeting area, the restaurant and new bar are really nice. A nice job overall.
As I was leaving someone walked out of the old tournament area and I scooted in as it was locked when I first came in and walked by. There was a lady right there from the hotel and I spoke to her about why I snuck in. She ended up being the food manager who ran the snack bar at the back during the DCC. She remembered Greg and Chad immediately and started reminiscing about working with them daily, how much fun the 2 weeks were and brought up the Filipinos and Alex in particular, how much fun they were. She said everyone loved having the tournament there and the only real complaint was cigarette burns in the carpet.
She took me around so I could take pictures of what it looks like now and everyone she introduced me to echoed everything she said. They all enjoyed the tournament there and all the people that came and said there are way worse groups that come.
They said they couldn't figure out why the tournament never came back after the remodel and we all figured it was something with management or after being in the casino they never bothered to go back and talk to them.
It was a great little visit (45 minutes) and brought back good memories for me and everyone I talked to.
Thought some of you guys would like to see what it looks like now.
Looks like on my phone I can only do one picture at a time, so here's the main tournament room-right side.
