And in case anybody is wondering I am the youngest son of the man that was on the plane with mike carella, the man he probably got killed,,, and I live in Morristown TN. Ivan Pena....Mike was killed in a hotel room probably hiding,,,, They killed my Dad but they had fight him....And I don't mean any offense to nobody on this forum please don't miss understand me... but whoever ordered the hit on my father if you're still out there PLEASE come for me too....Im here.....
The hitman could have been anyone Ivan. In those days, in Florida to get a Columbian hitman to kill someone cost only $500. To bring back the victims head cost another $500. That is not a guess by me. I spent plenty time in Miami in those days.

I'm sorry that happened the way you say, I really don't know what happened I never heard that story. I went to Carella's funeral and only heard that the plane ran out of gas and he was picked up on the beach and arrested.

However, I find it strange that if he did sing like a canary, why would he go to a meeting at a hotel to meet the people that hired him? If anything wouldn't he want to stay away from those people? Anyways, sorry to hear what happened to your father, and if it were me I would feel the same as you.

Respectfully,
Bill Incardona
To answer your dought I think he was hiding from his people and they found him, I also know that they knocked on the door he opened and was shot to death...

Then can you give me an idea where I can start my search other than the police?

Fred Im sorry but Ive seen scketches of the gunmen and they aren't Columbians there is alote more then meets the eye there has been alote of cover ups by authorities... it all indicates that whoever gave the order worned them that he wasn't an easy one and he would fight back,,, the gun men were from here trust me,, and also the plane was reported stolen the minute it went down, so who did it belong to before the fact? Who Did Carella Tell on? There is no way They could've loaded a big DC-10 at Miami airport of crates of guns and taken off legally.... I know times have changed but not that much... If it were that easy drug smugglers wouldn't have needed illegal landing strips they would've all flown in at MIA...All I get is the sense that the authorities don't want to dig to deep for some reason. I do appreciate your input...

I also know its the typical case of pure authority cover ups.... not wanting to dig deep enough cause they don't wanna find the truth....I say there was somebody very high up involved with that plane loading and taking off..legally....

Well the FOIA request will take a long time to get and it will no doubt be heavily redacted, if you get it at all. I have seen them on wise guys and names get redacted left and right and from what i have read here so far, and youre saying the plane was loaded with guns, leaves me to believe it was a company connected thing and theres no way on earth youre going to get any info about it.
Thats just my guess and i could be wrong but i hope you get some info but i dont like your chances. Also most if not all the people who were involved from 30 plus years ago are probably gone themselves.
Good luck to you though, i hope you get some kind of closure.

The only thing I can provide is that the rumor around (before he was killed) was that Mike was flying dope into the country. I have no personal proof tho.

Beard

But I guess he coulda been flying guns for the CIA too just as easily. But why would they use a nerd like him? He certainly wasnt any kind of heroic patriot.

Like I mentioned earlier, I went to Fl. and went to Mike's funeral, I talked with his wife and other people that knew how it came down (shooting) Mikes wife told me that Mike got a phone call and the people that hired him wanted to meet at this "motel" Mike went down and that's when and where he was killed. I also heard that he was flying guns into South America to trade for drugs, the plane was running out of gas quickly and Mike and his "co-pilot" began to throw the guns out of the plane and obviously wasn't able to get rid of all the guns before they crashed on the beach. They were arrested and from there the story gets clouded.

If Mike "turned" and started talking then he got what he figured to get. I'm sorry for Ivan's father regardless of how it came down, but especially if it happened the way he described it. However, when you get to that level you're playing with the "Big Big Boys" and they rarely take chances when they "may" get exposed...shoot first...ask questions later.:(

It is documented on corellas file that he spilled the beans on everybody in the states, My father kept his mouth shut, however I wouldnt dought it was the same people.. there is alote of cover ups cause there has to have been somebody way up with power to get that plane loaded and taken off legally thru Miami Airport, which is where they took off to begin with,,

First of all..... my family and I live very proud of the fact that my father had the balls most men lack..... Second, he was the co-pilot and due to Carellas lack of balls (and from what Im reading he didn't have much of anything that a true man holds close like values, a sense of loyalty... not sure what rat hole he climbed out of) he lost his life. I am sure he know very well what he was getting invloved in since there is alot about my father that is not known. He held very important positions in two countries (both in a military sense) and the US Gov was well aware of most of his dealings. Again, if anyone has any kind of information that could shed some light it would be greatly appreciated. Who was Carellas wife (name)? Who were the other individuals at the funeral that had a few details. Somebody, somewhere has to have some information.

I've really began thinking the government was involved in that flight.....there is no other way too many cover ups.....

its real simple mike was young back then and they just tricked him into meeting them at the hotel for whatever reason..... I do know the man who hired my father for that flight was named Fernando Carrandi and some nephews he had which were the ones who were connected...that's where all the answers are at....I'm just to the point of locating those nephews cause I know for a fact they should still be around cause they were young in those days.....

I believe most players start playing their best around that age, and their prime would be from 27 to 35 years old.

Billy I.

thats correct,

If there is a exception it might be bank specialists like JB for example and a few others i'm too tired to recall.

Efren might be exepmt, LOL and one other guy I cant name cause I aint gonna knock anything.

the 27-35 bracket is correct, look at SVB he is the current guy in that bracket, we all know the rest of the past guys, some fell off huge after 35 or earlier.

Like him or hate him Ervolino could play every game GREAT.
very true, i saw him near the end of his time(well by 4 or 5 year ) in Vegas in 92-93, He and Cardone were on the same flight as me coming back from Gradys 1P tourney at the Hilton that Ed Kelly won, Cornbread took 2nd. I didnt have $50 in my pocket nback then. I played Jeanette and beat her that week as well-sadly I had no $$ to bet. I discovered telemarketing shortly aft4er and fixed the being broke problem, now Jeanette plays better than me.

Ervolino's best game wasn't pool, for those who may be interested. His best game was hustling craps at the Las Vegas casinos. He would frequent casinos daily and hunt inexperienced crap shooters that had a lot of chips, he then would position himself next to them at the table and would converse with them wile they were playing. He would advise them of the percentages of the bets they were making and the reason it was wrong to play the way they were playing, in a matter of just minutes the inexperienced player would be following Ervolino's advice, then Johnny would explain to the player that if he took control of the chips and physically played he would be able to win the max, plus it would speed the process. Once Ervolino took control of the chips you would understand ..then...why he was considered one of the greatest movers ever.:D There's an art to everything

Dr. Bill

Richie Ambrose has a "similar" craps hustle. As far as I know he is still running it, the joints have clamped down on it a bit. Richie told me the hustle 20 years ago. I didnt know Ervolino ran that hustle, makes sense tho-I respect that, I never tried it on a dice table. I have playing 21 and did ok, few hundred a couple times, wasnt my bag-just wanted to see if I could pull it off, i did. If you spend enough time in the joints its not hard to figure out and find a mark.

I was in a joint in Vegas the other night and watched a "Chip hustler" the female kind, relieve a guy of a couple dimes, the casino didnt do anything to stop it. Steve Wynn's joints dont tolerate that action tho.

In some respects, Keith was a sucker, thinking he could outrun the nuts with no sleep.
I seen that first hand last time I saw Keith and spoke to him after, was at Mary's room Cuetopia in 93?

However I dont think the word "Sucker" and "Keith" should be in the same sentence. The best way to describe it, is "Keith believed in himself-no matter what" and made bad games when he hadnt slept in several days. I seen him win when he didnt sleep either. He lost more often than not-your right about that.

To me thats heart, not being a sucker.

I actually have the chart from Grady's huge One Pocket event that Ed Kelly came out of retirement and won -- to this day it might be the biggest money One Pocket tournament ever, and that was in 1993!
I was there for the whpole thing, broke as a joke. I left my bankroll at home-the guy i went with would "loan" me enough $$ to eat with everyday. I wasnt well known back then to borrow any $$$. Still glad I was there for the whole thing, I watched every shot in the final match.

Dan Louie case ball shot a spot shot into the wrong hole that week too-oops. He still remembers that one, I couldnt say a word(I know better) It hurt to watch.

To me it is a sucker.

Fats did the the same thing to Ritchie Florence.

Hell, Keith should have known better, and did know better than to let himself get "managed" like that.

If he gets beat he gets beat, but to get out "managed" is a suckers play, IMO.

Im not saying he is always a sucker, I am saying he got managed and he knew better.

This story should be a movie. Mr. Pena perhaps some things are better left alone.

He has been tossed out of a few joints for doing it, he did it on my game a few times as he knew me and i rode it, i just wanted a laugh listening to his b.s.
