In Detroit, the standard rule if you were caught playing partners or cheating at cards was...you sat out a game or a hand.

Why kick someone out for good and ruin the game forever?

I would venture to say, I have probably played, at least 92 DIFFERENT sets of rules...The original rules of golf, had you breaking out of the D, object ball, on the 6 ball spot and shooting at the 1st hole. You continued to shoot, until you made the 1 hole, counting your strokes, (much like 'Stymie')...Lowest score won...It was a boring way to play, and was soon superceded by the conventional (but convoluted) rules, that went on for years.

Hey Papie! How ya doin?

I would have loved to have played you golf.

I dare say I would have probably knocked your Dick off and they would have had to start calling you something else. Dickliss McMoran or something like that.

Also...I used to give your UPS brother Bill Gillin more than you offered him playing one pocket. I added the break to your offer and he didn't care for it after a bit. He is a little snug with his money. He thought/thinks he was/is a hellofa golf player too.

Then ask him why he refused the side hole, and the break..:p :p :p :p

Thats our Bill, big in the talk small in the do department. LOL. I believe you. I know what you offered him playing one pocket but he never told me what you offered playing golf, he had to have been too embarassed to tell me he didn't even look at that. :lol

He was really impressed with your game though which might explain not looking at it. Jeez what a wimp. :lol

When I first started playing golf then got good at it I realized I had a big advantage...being tall...and being left handed. I have a huge advantage being left handed shooting for the 2 and 5 holes. A tough spot for a right hander is the nuts for a left hander. I shouldn't have said anything but shit, Freddie gives up all kinds of secrets to the squares so what the hell.

We had a game a long time ago (myself, Dave "Lefty" Johnson, Ricky Graczyk, Dave Krenzel, a guy Larry and an east sider Tommy) and I start looking and realized all of us are left handed. I struck me funny and mentioned it and everybody thought it was kinda weird, has never happened since.

When I started playing good and winning alot I couldn't believe the guys that asked me to go "partners". I was like WTF! Good players!

I knew I was playing good and that shit sealed it for me. I knew...they knew...I was playing good. I know I've got the best of it getting 5 and 6 to one on the money and I'm going to give up half my money to a bunch of weak hearted pieces of shit, right!

So I knew who was probably partners in the game and so did everybody else and they'd even say shit during the game about it. Why not keep playing when you still have the best of it and getting odds on the money? ;)

Thats why my comment about sitting out a hand or game if you were caught cheating is more true than not and most people wont understand.

Detroit was a different city than most others gambling wise and you got good seasoning if you were smart and paid attention.

Liability was always a better game on the snooker table than golf cause you were only responsible for you and you only, which is why most of those weak hearted chumps liked golf more.

I still love playing golf but its dried up here like everywhere else. Bill told me where you guys played when he lived out there they had 3 6x12's and guys would come in and leave their pistols at the counter or on the next table and there was action all day. Man I miss that here.

I would have loved to have played you Papie (and still would) even though I dont think you would have liked it as much as you think. At any game by the way. :sorry

I want to hear it but now I fear I may not. Are you ever "fresh"?

We played a partners (random draw) version where each partner had a ball & it could be shot by either partner. You'd lag one ball up to your team's next hole (to block & set you up for a run). It put a lot of pressure on CB control and added a whole 'nother level of strategy.

Sorry Mosc..

But 2-ball golf, is just a bastardization of the REAL man's game...They only play it in the illiterate, ignorant, parts of the country (like Florida) The best player has such an easier time (as opposed to 1 ball golf) it is almost inhumane..:sorry   :p

PS..I never played it,...I was afraid someone would report me to the S.P.C.A. ;)

They had a monthly nine ball tournament there that went on for years. I used to go there with Frank "The Barber" Almanza. Ron Rosas was the best player and I would not fool with him, but there was action with the others. I had the other Ron and Rich (Frenchy) playing snooker for $100 a game one time. Jerry Chapel also hung around there and gambled some.

I remember Jerry.

I'll be in Vegas tomorrow. You around town? I'll be back in Van Nuys soon if your in the LA area.

I live in the foothills between Sacramento and Tahoe and play at Hard Times Sacramento. Added $$ first of the month tournaments this weekend. One pocket Saturday and nine ball Sunday. Always a little action too.

Ignorant huh, we had some of the best players in the world playing that game.

You can't pay any real attention to all of that, CaptainHook. SuperDuck and Hurricane Hacker have a thing going and they're talking a whole lot of shit. Some pretty creative writing, I must say. I wish I had a natural talent for writing like some people. I can write a few pages now and then but it takes so much effort. I would rather read other peoples writings or listen to music, play games on a pc or watch movies, scan porn etc. It's hard to believe Bukowski could write all he did while working full time at a demanding job at the post office. Did you ever play any liability??

I never played liability, i'm sure lefty and the guys did, I did play snooker and had Wayne Gunn make me a snooker shaft for my Palmer, we had a numbered set of snooker size balls and would play 9 ball on the snooker table, the very first break with the new shaft I made the 9 in the right hand corner pocket, I can still see it going in.:D
