Most examples diagramed here are of offensive shots. Being a novice player, I would really like some diagrams of defensive situations with various replies.

Hope you get some examples. I don't have anything to post.
Some options are
tie up something on your opponents side
tip and duck
rearrange the furniture
freeze the CB to the back of a ball or a rail
all good things to keep in mind. ;)

The percentage of time a cueball shot comes up is the one thing you could work on in regard to recognizing those situations. The defensive shot will translate for you into a cueball shot ... i.e. when you are considerng a "defensive shot" it can be made into a shot where control of the cueball is more important than the lagging of the object ball toward your pocket for example.

One thing you want to do, is always do something that will hopefully benifit you later. I used to just shoot balls away without really thinking far enough ahead.

but buy the dvd
watch
