Danny Smith trails in the match 4/6 in games played, however, he is playing very well and Tony is also playing well. The 10/8 is a heavy load to carry for any one playing a player that plays as well as Chohan, despite the fact that Chohan hasn't played competitive pool in years he's certainly making his presence felt.

Danny is in great stroke and he's giving it his best but I suspect that he'll wear down eventually and Tony will win this match possibly before play ends in day one. However, if Danny can remain competitive through day one then imo Danny has certainly reached upper echelon status.

Chohan gave game eleven away. After leading seven to three with three balls out of play Tony tried an inexplicable kick on a ball Smith had hanging instead of just "fanning" a ball and giving up the hanging ball to Smith. In his attempt to kick in the hanging ball he didn't make contact with a ball and had to spot a ball which then gave smith a shot at the hanging ball with position for the spotted ball. The game lasted quite some time after that and both players made some great shots. It looked like either player could have won the game at one time or another but Smith eventually won game eleven to come to within one game of the lead at 5/6.

Big mistake by Chohan, i'm curious to see how he's going to handle it.

Tony has had flashes of brilliance, but definitely showing some rust in consistency. But in general Tony is breaking well and getting out of Danny's break real well, and thus getting the jump in most games from those I watched.

But then Tony later makes a mistake or so and Danny has a chance to come back. If Tony can reduce those mistakes, he will have Danny buried.

Billy, when Chohan was playing his best how do you think these guys would have matched up?

How about the kick Danny made off the opposite corner and end rail sending two balls rolling in great strategic position near his hole, leaving Tony near a ball, on the end rail, close to the the opposite pocket? I did a doube take but they never showed a replay.

After a long layoff at anything, in competition you have to test your limits to see where you are...poker, shooting, golf and of course pool. You have to see were you are vs where you where without it costing you the game.

This was my first view of Tony and I see why he is called T REX. He is very good and perhaps his lapses where a result of seeing where he is versus before. He is hard to handle now and will only get back stronger. I bet we do not see him getting two balls from anyone soon.

I got the event pass, great match, thanks Ray.

Good question. Tony looks to be playing around 90% of his top speed, the missing 10% would equate to approximately one ball (8/7) Many people may feel that 90% is very close to playing your best when in fact it's actually a huge difference, allow me.:)

Here are some comparisons which will give some a better understanding on what 10% is worth.:D

Betting sports, particularly football and basketball where the better is laying 10% "juice" on an even bet is the difference of you driving a new car, or your book maker.:sorry

Playing craps at a casino every roll of the dice carries appox 3% or less on just about all the prop bets and line bets that are made. Casino's are willing to fly you in, pay for your room, feed you the best food, and comp you to any show you would like to see, all for free.:heh

There are many more examples of what small percentages are worth, like credit card, mortgages, currency conversion fees, ect. ect. ect.

All the above works on less than 5% yet they are able to build multi billion dollar businesses.

Tony is playing about 10% under his top speed (8/7). Danny Smith is laying 10/8 and looks like he'll lose. I think a closer and more competitive game would be around 9/8 or 8/7, at most, which imo would put both players around the same speed when playing their best game.

Danny Smith is one hell of a player, lets make no mistake about that, he's no joke.

Tony Chohan once was, and will be again, no more than a ball under the best players. Tony is an awesome player who plays without fear, excellent ball striker and plays super aggressive, as does Smith.

We are watching one pocket being played by two of the most aggressive players in the world, playing it at a very high level.

Thank you Ray Hansen.:)

Oops, almost forgot, thanks Tony and Danny.
Lets not forget to give respect and credit to Chris Gentile, who was extremely informative through out the entire evening. Thanks Chris.:D

Great observations Billy! Yes, although either with my hearing or the broadcast volume or my computer speaker capabilities, I had trouble hearing Chris, but when I did, it was obviously very solid and insightful commentary!! I watched until midnite last night, which is kinda late for me on a work weeknight, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would watch again tonight but I believe I am playing pool myself tonight :)

Dr. Bill, is the 10% you refer to Tony being under his game a lack of being in stroke or lack of mental stroke i.e. shooting the correct shot(s)? I actually think the mental part of the game may be more of a factor than the physical at this point in Tony's return to the competitive ranks.

Great points Jerry. I believe in Tony's case it has more to do with him understanding what his true capabilities are, in terms of how he'll respond to different types of pressure, as opposed to the actual execution parts of his game. Granted his execution will be suffering but he can get that back in a short period, whether through practice or competitive play. Tony has been away from competitive play playing top players for over seven years, he really doesn't know how he will respond to that type of pressure because of his absence from the game playing under those type of conditions. However, understanding Tony's mentality being the fearless player that he's always been can and will help him through the mental hurdles that he needs to get through.

I watched quite a bit of the match last night and I saw the improvement in his play as the match progressed. The match is seven ahead and Tony is five up going into today I believe that Tony will win the match within the first three hours of play, either winning four to two or five of the first eight games played. Call it an "educated guess" but that's the way I see it.

Danny is a very talented player that is in great stroke, however, neither he nor any one else can carry a ball more than their capable of carrying for an extended period of time, but a hell of a player..none the less.

It's been a very enjoyable match to watch, and I expect it to be just as enjoyable today.
