An open letter to all One Pocket players, members and interested parties

Obviously, Covid-19 is wreaking havoc in the pool world, just as it is in every other walk of life. In many areas bars and poolrooms have had to temporarily close their doors – and no one knows how long temporary is going to actually last. The first and most important thing I want to say is that I hope and pray everyone stays as safe as possible and gets through this crisis only the stronger for it.

For now, our Hall of Fame dinner scheduled for late May at Buffalo’s in New Orleans is officially and indefinitely postponed, since Buffalo’s has had to temporarily close and cancel their major One Pocket tournament that our HOF dinner was scheduled with. Anyone who has made a paid reservation can have their money back 100%, or if they want it held for a future HOF dinner, we can do that too. If you want to wait and see, and you later decide you want your money back, that is no problem – you can have it back at any time.

Congratulations to Alex Pagulayan and Francisco Bustamante for being selected for induction into the One Pocket Hall of Fame! Although their induction celebration will need to be rescheduled, this honor will be with them for the rest of their lives. Ultimately we want their day of celebration to be as meaningful, fun and as well attended by their peers as possible, and for now that means rescheduling. Thank you for your support and for your understanding.

As of today, our 5th annual Members Only Tournament (MOT) is still tentatively on for June 5-7, based on our host room, Chris’s Billiards, still being open for business, and their hope that by early June the Covid-19 crisis will be abated and it will be safe to travel. Realistically, I anticipate the likelihood of postponing our MOT, of course depending on how this crisis plays out. In any case, whether we have to postpone or not, even if our MOT is ruled safe to go on, anyone who is signed up can withdraw and get a complete refund if they determine for themselves that it is not safe for them to go. You do not have to wait for an official cancellation of the MOT to get your entry money back. Safety is first and foremost. If you are booking travel or hotel, for your own financial sake please only book something you can change or cancel. Stay tuned for further announcements.

In the meantime, we can all still safely mix via our online onepocket.org forum, and work on our One Pocket thinking by participating in WWYD's and other forum conversations about the finer points of One Pocket.

Thank you for being a part of the OnePocket.org community, and to all of you I wish the best of health for you and your loved ones!

Thanks for the update, Steve. Quietly reassuring. Let's all do our part to keep this thing from spiraling out of control. Flatten the curve, as we've learned. Stay home as much as you can, and if you do go out, be sensible and sensitive to your effect on others. Take care everyone.

So, I am officially on telework status – actually not a bad thing, can get a couple reports done, then have a project (aerial lifts) and a directive proposal (the way PSM audits are conducted for industrial contractors in refineries/chemical plants) I can plug away at (kind of stuff I never have time to get to under normal circumstances) – keep me busy for 4 or 5 weeks, then….who knows….

My wife does catering for Panera bread – her typical customers are associations/lawyer/doctor offices, etc. and she is shut down. She could have worked in the store, but would just be taking hours away from people that really need them….so she is home also….

Frankie has been taking a “lag year” (that wasn’t an option for me….lol) before some kind of schooling (probably a local junior college). She actually makes good money for a kid building/painting custom doll kits.

The Millers are officially in quarantine/shelter-in-place status.

This is all so freaking surreal.

Thanks Steve, you are always the voice of reason and compassion. I did book a flight and hotel that would not be flexible under normal circumstances, but these are not normal. I hope they would be flexible if the MOT would be cancelled, but I hope to see many of you there (fingers crossed).

I agree with the others, the important thing is to stay safe and healthy. The good news is Diane and I aren't sick of each other yet after day one. LOL

We just returned from Naples Florida yesterday where I got to have dinner with Tom Wirth and golfed with Nick of the South. It was great to see them outside of pool.

Peace to all,
Dave

It’s very sad millions of people worldwide are suffering physically and economically. I hope a treatment is found soon and wish everyone well.

Thanks for the update Steve. Anyone who will not be in attendance due to medical concerns can obtain their refund by private messaging me. It is easier to respond to private messages rather than sift though the comments. Please include your PayPal address or home address if requesting a check by mail.

I just ordered some food grade barrels to store water in , just in case the treatment plant shuts down or there is a problem, we can go a month without food but after a few days without water you are not going to be doing so good. You usually have about 20 or 30 gallons in a Hot water tank and if you have time you can fill containers when the water gets turned off, except you won't know it until it's too late! They have water filter straws at places like Bass Pro and Cabelas or online Sawyer is the one I bought , about 20 dollars that will filter 1000s of gallons I suggest getting a couple of those, maybe keep your spare bathtub full of water and change it out once a week , just in case . I pray we don't follow in the footsteps of China and Italy but if we do , expect at least 30 to 60 days of shutdown and nobody allowed out or anything being brought to you. Hopefully it won't get anywhere near that bad but with just a little forethought , most of us can make it They say 1 gallon of water a day per person , I think half that would be ok if you aren't moving around much

I have heard several participants at the CSI event at the RIO came down with the virus. Last night our Ventura County Department of Health shut us down and I'm closed for at least two weeks. I'm thinking it'll be longer than that. Time to trench in and stay in our bunkers. Don't take chances especially us old types.

I heard from two friends of mine in Las Vegas. Griff's will be shutting down today at 11:00 am. Not sure when they will reopen. Several casinos/restaurants in Las Vegas will also shut down.

You didn’t really want to stay open anyway. Subject your employees to risk, your friends from the pool room. I am kind of surprise with your medical background that you stayed open as long as you did. Take care. Are you still working? My wife is but no lunches for us at her work. No positive responses yet where we live. We are close to no where, right around the corner from nothing.

I don’t know the answers, who does, but will people get a refund from housing, flights if we wait too long? I’m thinking postpone it to the end of summer. By then it will be over for sure. It took Wuhan 4-5 months for the cycle. That doesn’t mean it won’t recycle because not enough was done by non believers. I also think that if the tournament is postponed that we consider Red Shoes instead. It is close to hotels and food. Two of the qualifiers for having a place for the MOT. Neither are available for Chris’s.

Really disgusting by you, (but not surprising) that even at a critical time like this for all of us, you keep on with your bitter agenda against Chris's billiards being chosen to host the MOT. This about the 4th post you've made knocking and lying about Chris's billiards. Shame on you.

Old School

what did I lie about
There is no food at Chris’s
There are no hotels near Chris’s
Red Shoes is in Chicago so what’s your point? You just want to rag on me, well you embarrassed yourself. Good job. I like Chris’s but not to travel 3000 miles not to have the comforts of eating and a hotel that is close, no thanks

Because I happen to have opinions different than others at times, I am subjected to personal attacks. It is precisely at this time we need to consider postponing the MOT because if not now, then do we wait long enough that people lose their possible refunds. I don’t think bringing this up now is wrong or says anything about Chris’s. I like the old school feeling of Chris’s. What I don’t like is not being able to eat during the tournament where we are playing. Nor do I want to stay at a place that is a half an hour drive to the pool room. We have criteria but it has all been thrown out the window, why? Personal attacks? I live for them. I posted this to have a discussion, those of you that want to do that, ok. If you just want to tag on me, go to the members section

No, I sure didn't embarrass myself, for calling a spade a spade. Here's just one example of your agenda driven posts, one that you made back in early Feb. :

You call the much loved players room Chris's billiards decrepit? Yeah right, no bitter, biased agenda there.

And you say the airport is not close? I've traveled to Chicago and Chris's many times, and driving down the freeway, Chris's is just 4 exits from the airport. At lower traffic hours, I make that drive in 10 minutes. And Chris's caters in food for tournaments.

It is decrepit, that is its charm. And posting that Ghost is there is ribbing Ghost.

Ok, where Bill stayed at the MOT BY the airport was NOT close...lol I know, i took him there once....... lol Where i stayed by the airport wasn't too far but i hate the tollways.
Lavin already told us we can't do Red Shoes Bill.... because he has slot machines. With slot machines in IL, calcutta's are illegal so he won't risk his license.
I will be withdrawing as i said before, so send me my entry Mike. In my view this Covid thing aint no joke and will be with us until next year. I do have a idea to save pool for senior and at risk players. I'll update when i start the testing phase...

Red Shoes is in Alsip.
MidWay airport is further to Red Shoes than O’Hare is to Chris’s.

Nice try, but just like the lying politcians, you're squirmimg and trying to spin what you posted in the past.

Now you try and say that you like Chris's billiard's, and decrepit is it's charm? Yeah right. When you originally posted that Chris's billiard's was decrepit, it was under your heading stating: My reasons against Chris’s.

Here's the proof of just some of your lying, courtesy of the paper trail.

Why should I squirm? Because some Neanderthal attacks my personal opinions? I feel sorry for you that you are so personally offended by my not liking the choice of Chris’s that you embarrass yourself with your posts. See, I tried to get a place close. There are none. Then I realized after my last trip there, there is no available food on demand. Then, there is Ghost. He doesn’t mind saying things about others but if you Kidd him, it’s like nuclear warfare.
Are you saying that Chris’s isn’t decrepit? Because it is and that is it’s charm. I can say that because I grew up in places like it and it reminds me of those old pool rooms. It’s not new. It is old. It’s dirty. The light is poor. The floors are dirty. It has no food. And to me, that is it’s charm, even the old warn out steps reminds me of several places in Kentucky. There are no hotel rooms close.
You can stick your paper trail up your ass next to your brain. My reasons against Chris’s did not include personal attacks against you but things change. Want to talk about lying politicians, your hero Trump said the virus was a hoax, go out in public, it’s safe say others like him.
