Ha! I just noticed the picture you posted, Steve! That picture was taken in '66 or '67. Zappa on top; L to R: Don Preston, Roy Estrada; then Bunk Gardner, Ray Collins, Jimmy Carl Black; then Billy Mundi. Notice that this particular print hadn't been cropped to hide the background paper roll.

Billy Mundi left, then I joined to replace him in early 1968. The band immediately became better...:)

Doc

Thanks Doc. Lol I don't know if that is the best way to pose for a picture, but it don't bother me if it didn't bother them. I wish you would tell more stories about those days or write a book. I know it's a very daunting task.

If you ever wondered how/why the pool chalk on your tip gives you that 'grab' when the tip makes contact with the cueball....this is a scanning electron microscope generated photo of one grain of chalk - a grain much smaller than a grain of salt ------>

PS, And hey Dustin...the other night you asked me what the 'dungeon' known as Bensinger's Billiard Academy really looked like...in post #58 of this thread you'll see a pic that I posted up, of one small section of Bensinger's.

Unfortunately, boys being boys, porn pics/naked lady pics got posted up instead..:

I take offense to this. I have explicitly stated i'm doing my best to culture the boys. I am a worldly individual, and I see it as my duty to culture posters in some of the finer points in life. Duck understands.

For those of you who have never been to the legendary old school Chris's Billiards and wonder what it looks like...here'e a pic of part of the main/front room - which is the 2nd biggest room out of the three rooms that make up Chris's Billiards - Chris's is a BIG poolroom...the table that you can barely see in the far left, just over the guy sitting in the chair wearing the baseball hat, is the main action table, 10ft. in front of the front counter...and the table all the way on the far right, up against the wall, is the table that roadmen miller and Petie robbed the Ghost on.......:)

- Ghost

PS, And here's some One Pocket player trivia for you...that table in the center left, just past the two wooden stadium chairs, is the table that Alex 'The Lion' Pagulayan played his first ever games of One Pocket on, when he made a road trip down here from Canada when he was just 18-19 yrs. old - and he was already playing lights-out 9ball...oh yeah, and the guy he played those first few hours of his One Pocket career with - was the Ghost......whenever I see him he always laughs and says come on let's play some One Pocket now so I can get my money back...:)

Larry,

Over on the left, completely out of sight, (behind the guy 'without' the cap)..is the table where I gave Cole Dixon 10/7 and the break..He was only 18 than..Hell of a 9 ball player already, but couldn't even spell 'one pocket'...So I made him a fair game..;)
He was on a road trip too..He was down from Fremont, Ca- to San Jose, (28 miles)...One of his shorter trips...Some years later, he asked for the same game, to get his money back...:p :p :p

SuperDuck ..PS..We all have our little original stories, don't we..

Thanks for the compliment even if it is a fib. For the rest of you, we did play there but nobody robs the Ghost. He moves way too good and is stingy as hell and practices shots that you never even saw so that he can make them regularly and intimidate you.

here's about a 17 year old miller - somewhere he probably shouldn't have been (with an exhilarated date) - chomping at the bit to get back up....

Miller,

Your date looks absolutely thrilled with your budding pool carreer..You are too modest..Your opponent looks like a young Buddy Hall..Wasn't she impressed, that you were giving him the 7-8-9 ??? ;)

SuperDuck <--Has NEVER lost to anyone either...(under 15)

PS..Please don't think I was 'mocking' Ghoastess, with my post #129....We all know he has the greatest one pocket mind, ever..and has NEVER lost to a champion...But, of course some were a LOT younger than Alex, when he played them..:lol :lol :lol

Ahh, our ladies. Why do we torture them by dragging them to the poolroom with us?! They come along to be supportive of us, then they have to sit around bored out of their gourds!

There are only two gorgeous dolls we know who have ever done well in that environment: Clare, and JAM.:) I had a good pool gal back in the 60's, but she damn near ran off with Diliberto!

I'm sorry to have to disappoint you Ghosty, but I was never in a pool room when I was 18. I did not step foot in a pool room until I was about 30. It was only during my years with JR that I was present in a pool room. When I was growing up there was a pool room not far from where we lived. That pool room terrified me. If I was walking down the sidewalk where it was located, I would actually cross the street when I came to the pool room so that I would not have to walk in front it. 😳

Doc , thank you for the sweet compliment.
