A couple videos, your thoughts please.

I have a a few more POV One pocket videos where I take BIH behind the line and try to get as many as I can in my hole.

My break is normal, I don't bust them wide open or anything like that.

You make a lot of difficult shots. The table seems fast or your speed control is a little off. Ease up on the steroids You do a good job. A hint. Stay a little above the balls so you have an insurance shot if you miss position a bit. From the bottom up if you get straight in or miss position you'll have few options.

PS, The tables in Houston are now, very fast and dry. Summer heat I suppose.

Ole One ball Darren. He can make one ball from anywhere, but that's it, even if the balls are laying perfect, he will find a way to run into a ball and be in the only spot where balls can't be made lol.


So Rod are you saying that I need to be closer to the headstring on each shot than to the racking end, that way I have more of a shot selection?

I find myself having to make ridiculous cuts because I'm near the bottom rail and there is only one ball sticking out

Well, maybe around the sides might be better. One scenario you had CB in hand and stayed low, when maybe up higher would've given you more options

Thank you Androd, I do need the help badly.

I'm guessing that I average 1 or less than one ball overall for a session of doing that. Most of the time I miss the first ball.

It takes guys around here months to ask around do this or that to give me the fair game, which seems to be 10-7, but I have to play even and keep losing.

I played there last week. I played Josh Lewis some cheap practice and was very impressed with his cue ball. He never ran a lot of balls but he kept me stuck on a ball and picked his off from there. Very young and a gentleman to boot. I'll be watching him.

Sorry John, but your choice of onepocket role model is ill advised. I started watching the 1st disc. and gave up after Schmidt's 3rd bad shot in a row. John is a great straight pool player, but he dont have a clue about one pocket. I say that after watching him violate basic one pocket principles that showed he was just guessing. Now the other guy, Chris, dont shoot near as good as John but knows the game much, much better.

Chris would have won the match but JS very seldom every gave him a shot.

JS has a very different approach to the game as many of us do.

Man What torture. I can't believe I watched two games. The reason I don't watch pool or go to tournaments. John a fine shooter I guess, thankfully he finally banked one hard enough to get to his pocket. His one pocket skills need a lot of experience. I'm sure he's hard to beat with his rudimentary skills. They both played very safe, probably because of the generous tables
and the tournament venue.

Unfortunately for me, running balls is not my long suit. Thats why I never did become a good straight pool player. However, I did notice immediately that you were going the wrong way in the 7 ball run when you chose the 10 ball over the 3 ball. I was proved correct when you got into trouble and missed shape on the 3. Once you chose the 10 all your options on that side of the table were gone. Even if you got shape on the 3 -- which was hard anyway -- your options would have been pretty much used up, unless you got perfect on the 3. You were already good on the 3 before you chose the 10. You could have gotten behind the stack -- I couldnt tell if you had a shot back there -- or you could have come all the way around for the 10 if that was all that was available.

This is obviously practice and attempting to just run balls but I think you should try and practice how you play. In the first video, you're 2nd shot is a long combo. You made it fine, but thats a tough shot on a tight table and the way you followed the cueball straight up would have sold the farm had you missed. I think holding the cueball above the stack or to the left of it would have been a safer shot.

The cueball is always important, but when running balls if you're not guaranteed to make that shot, I think the cueball is even more important.

Just my observation for whatever its worth. Other than that, you seem to run balls fine.
