CSI has announced the 12th US Open One Pocket Championship, to be held May 13-15 2011 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino. The $25,000 Added US Open 10-Ball Championships will be held immediately after the One Pocket (May 16-21). Both events are being held in conjunction with the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships. You may read the full press release here: http://www.azbilliards.com/2000storya.php?storynum=8206. This will now be an annual event.

The 12th US Open One Pocket Championship is $10,000.00 added. Entry is $340.00 (including $40.00 registration fee).

It is still in the early stages of planning and the following criteria has been tentatively set (subject to change).

Field Size: 32 players (may open up to 48 depending on response).
Race to 4 on winners side/race to 3 on loser side
Final: 1 race to 5
Equipment: Diamond Pro-Am tables with 4.5" pockets with 860 Simonis Tour Blue

Because this is the US Open title, CSI would like to send an 'Invitation' to noteworthy One Pocket Players, but there isn't any rankings for One Pocket Players. So, CSI is asking YOUR help for suggestions for the invitee list.

This event is not Invite Only - and will be open to ALL players - Men & Women. The Invitation is a courtesy to deserving players, and those who have performed well in past events; this is to prevent them from being shut out. However, invitation does not reserve a spot, it only gives the player a certain period of time to accept or decline, then the field will be opened. The interest has been very high so it is possible that the waiting list will fill up the whole field after the invited players have made their decision.

FYI – both events have obtained WPBA recognition, and will be streamed by TAR. The 10-Ball is a BCA points event.

So, fire away. Who do you think should be on the list? Better yet, who do you want to see in the finals?

Mark you might consider inviting the top 25 or 30 finishers in the DCC 1P from last year, or combining previous winners from recent years. I'm sure you or Greg have the lists. Top finishers in recent U.S. Open 1P events should certainly be invited first.

The obvious choices would be Frost, Gabe Owen, Efren, Daulton, Ochoa, Pagulayan, Putnam, Joyner, Schmidt, Nevel, N. Vita, Parica, Bustamante, Wiseman, Martinez, Sambajon, Varner, and the like.

There are some Left Coast players who would qualify as well, such as Billy Palmer, Amar Kang, and Morro Paez.

I don't think you'll have any problem filling up 32 spots; probably not even 48. It's good dough, there are other events around that time, and your involvement adds prestige. The guys know that they'll get paid.;)

Thanks for the comments Doc. If I was going to hazzard a guess - I am thinking we will probably fill up the 48 and have 4-6 in waiting.

And YES - everyone will get Paid on the spot!

Mark, this is a great way to get the best players. I would like to add to Ace's list: Jose Parica, Cliff Joyner, Nick Varner and Raphael Martinez. Thanks again.

We want to thank everyone for their comments.

If any rooms want to hold a qualifier for this event, please contact Holly@playcsipool.com.

Caspers event in Texas (Feb 4-6) will be a qualifier. We would probably consider up to 6.

But they need to be completed in plenty of time for everyone to be able who is playing in the event and who is not.

There is more info at this thread:

Dick, I think the traditional break point on compensation for this kind of thing is airfare and hotel for the top 209, Greyhound and bus station locker for below.

Just an update.
We are contacting all of the 'invited' players for the event.
We will be opening the field to 48 players. Next year we will try to add a day and expand the field- we will see how this one goes.

The invited players (past champions and runner-ups) will need to be paid by march 1st. Then we will work of the alternate list.

If you want placed on the list, please email holly@playcsipool.com.
When the invited players start confirming, we will begin posting them.

I will be at dcc to answer the questions that I can

Thanks-

Great to see the strong interest. I'm hoping to get out to Vegas myself for this.
