What's the short list of most important playing tips for winning one pocket?

I'll volunteer a couple (that may or may not make the 10 Commandment cut):

- Always play safe, whether shooting or not.

- When not shooting leave the CB frozen to something.

10 Commandments of One Pocket

Great idea Patrick. Here are my initial thoughts. :)

1.The CueBall gets Priority!
2.Don’t “Go for one more ball” if it will cost you control of the table.
3.Check for dead ones.
4.Don’t be afraid to take a foul.
5.Sometimes its best to just give him the ball.
6.Dont force a shot that you know doesn’t go! “If it don’t go... it DONT GO”
7.Don’t be a hero.
8.If the safe is as difficult as the shot.... Take the shot!
9.Practice Crossover Banks
10.The best move is 8 and out.

Sounds like you studied Artie B's and Jimmy Fusco's 1 Pocket playbook!

ALL looks good to me!

simple answer. play the shot that gives you the best chance of winning the game. and if you arent able to see that then all the commandments arent going to help you one bit.

I was going to finish with, if you arent able to see that, then do something simple :D

Adjust your game to the way the table is playing

With the lead, don't put in play more balls than what you need to win

Practice your break -- it is the most important shot of the game

Practice spot shots -- with 1, 2, 3, 4 balls on the spot

Make your opponent beat you if he going to win. It is amazing how many game are lost not won. I learned this from playing Frank The Barber.

yep its all one giant package. any parts of it you dont do well or miss because you didnt know about it costs you something everytime. and over the course of a long match it adds up to win or loss.

Only one for all pool. Stake yourself when you got the nuts and run to backers when you don't.

1. One pocket is about mistakes. Limit your mistakes and you usually win.

2. Your shot depends upon the score. Play the score.

3. Stay focused. One pocket is as much mental as physical.

4. Cue ball position is critical in one pocket; See #1.

5. Check the stack for wired combinations first; both to your hole and his.

6. Distance is the cousin of safe. When in doubt, leave them long.

7. On Pocket size: Pick a table you are comfortable running balls on.

8. A man who is a weak banker cannot play one pocket.

9. Be a student of the game. Learn by watching better players.

10. One pocket is the greatest game, but it is still a game. Have fun.

Here's a (slightly) organized list of all the "commandments" suggested both here and in the same thread over on AzBilliards.

I'm so confused......I been studying WWYD's forever......where there's three dozen offensive shots for every situation and nobody plays safe............ever.
