I originally posted this in the "Who's going to the Derby" thread. It apparently didnt get a single rise. Did everybody think I was kidding? The tease to John Henderson was a fluff, but the TV crews were not. I would have thought that a good chance to get a pool reality show on the tube might be an interesting topic. Or maybe there is going to be a surfeit of TV people converging on DCC that I hadnt heard about?

Let me give you a little incentive, Big John. I am going to have two different sports networks following me around the Derby. The History Channel and ESPN is coming to DCC with cameras.
They have both been in contact with me for the last few weeks. I am going to be dukking them into the hot shot gamblers, I promise to give you some air time if you give me and Billy I some action.

Fred, did they give you any indication of what type of piece they might be considering? A documentary, a news piece, a special? Perhaps the coverage will be in the vein of the ABC coverage of Johnston City. It'll be nice to see some exposure done by the experts, but it would be interesting to know what they have in mind.

I spent many of my professional years dealing with those in the television media and what people do not realize is that dealing with TV is a double-edged sword. Someone says, "TV will be there, cool." Hmmm, not so fast -- once there you will have no control of them, what they record, and most importantly, how they will edit the final product. Like I said, it's a double-edged sword...

The one guy for ESPN, Gentry, was a classmate at Tulane with my daughter Catherine. He has an Emmy and a Peabody for sports documentary. Years ago, I already had him in the pool rooms and the race tracks.

That's good, Beard. They should do a show that centers around Chicago. So like Duck says, get max exposure. I would be holding up a copy of The Encyclopedia constantly in front of the camera. The show should feature players from Chi Town and all the guys who come there for action. Like Mr. Henderson when he plays The Ghost. Then, each week, it should pick out a character from The Encyclopedia, and have you tell a nicely prepared anecdote. One week it could be about Sugar Shack. The next week could be about a true champ like Don Watson. The next could be about Port Chester Mickey Carpinello. Then Richie Ambrose and Richie Florence etc. It could keep them busy for at least ten years and give you a nice check each week.

Somewhere I have some info Grady put together when he was trying to get a TV show on. Since reality shows have gotten so popular, even though I don't care for them, it might be fesible. I do know the guys in Vegas spent 10 years getting PawnStars on.

Not trying to piss in the cheerios but how would gambling on pool inside the casino being shown on T.V. float with the gambling board of Indiana. Its one thing they know its going on and turn the other eye but if ESPN did a piece on it would the gambling board get their ass hairs in an uproar? Just wondering
P.S. I know we are not gambling IN the casino but you get my point

Both parties have talked to Greg Sullivan and he knows what they want and is all charged up about it. The thing that concerns the Casino is that nobody ever shows the money.
