As I’m listening to 1960’s Marvin Gaye’s music….I started thinking about the traveling I did as a youngin’ Pool and bartending allowed me to move anywhere/anytime and play and stay and work (but not Always). I made the effort to get a perspective of what I liked/disliked in life, and it helped me make a decision where I wanted to Land. But I did many extended stays in these cities, many for over a year or much more. CO/FL/LA (New Orleans) WI/CA (San Francisco-Long Beach) IL/. I’m ready for the final move since age seems to be rebooting my frikkin’ brain (Didn’t see that comin’)….Can’t wait.

If I were in your shoes Bill..It would be no-brainer for me !...John Henderson has the best of ALL worlds, in Placerville, CA :) :) :)
........(or you could try Moore, Okla, or Joplin, MO..;))

Recent Post;..But, I'm sure you knew all this ?...
My oldest son, (hard to believe he's almost 60 now)..lives just a few miles from John H....The Sierra's, the Gold country, and the Wine country of California are (IMO) the neatest places in the world, for fun activities, or sightseeing !...Plus, a half days drive, gets you to Yosemite, the big Redwoods, or Pebble Beach !...South shore of Lake Tahoe, is only 50 scenic miles away !...Compared to the rest of Cali, it is still pretty laid back !
For the last 25-30 yrs., any excuse to visit the kids, was OK with us !.. (incl. their dogs birthday, Donald Trumps anniversay, St. Paddy's day, etc.)...Plus Sac, SF, and Mtn. View, are still pretty good pool towns...I envy John, and often wish we had settled up there..:(

Arkansas River

Arkansas River

Where it meets the front range of the S. E.Rockies, it will hit a Dam:frus and recreate the river East. Their I will reside with a 9' pro cut Diamond, surrounded by irrigation ditches in the High desert.

Ahh, Colorado. I've got some good stories from my time in Golden during college. I'm afraid I can't match you old-timers' stories :) but I do have a couple of good'ns.

Well step up. When I played in So. IL, every state college that I went too had only 4 1/2 X 9 Gold Crown I's and usually a good size room on campus with anywhere from 8 to 20 tables, depending on which University you were at. Looking at the BCA rule book, the event started in 1937, in 1945-46 no events because of war, and in 1975 Bob Jewett won. The list of states started in 1937 @ University of Wisconsin, next yr. FL then Colgate University, U. of Wisconsin then KS/Cornell/FL/IU/FL/UT/then in 1949-50-51 Leroy Kinman won it three in a row, pretty strong in those days. But the list and where the champion students came from is interesting. One's many still know are Larry Galloway, Marshall Boelter, Varner, Dan Louie, Jewett, stever cusick, Bill Beardsley, Max Eberle, Anthony Piazza (two in a row), Ruben Silva, colorado springs. The Gals started in 1929 at UI Champaign IL, then held their next in 1942...in 1945-46-47 & 1950 & 57 & 58 & 1981 & 1985 no tournaments. The first two events of 1942-43 were won by two gals from South Dakota State College, then in 44 player from CO. From 1962-63-64 Bowling Green State Univ. won it. In 62 it was San Merrick, then Barbara Watkins back to back.

Here's a pop quiz for you.....I know of at least one other member of this site (beside Jewett) that won the title.

He was Notre Dame. On JGs quiz, I will put in a guess for Uwate.

Name doesn't come to mind, tho he did win the collegiate event in 1961. I graduated HS in 67 and hadn't seen a bar table yet. I matched up with Varner and Steve Oaks during the 1969 Midwest regional finals at IU after the event. I know I got nicky stuck about $360 before we quit, that was Allot of money for a college student back then. During those earlier yrs. was always able to make enough during holiday break$ to pay for the next semester.

Good work Jimmy B! David Uwate was the 1992 Champion while attending the University of Florida. We used to play out of the same room in Perrine(south of Miami), Peg's Pockets in the early to mid 80s. Tommy Brown, John DiToro and Steve Ferraro also played out of that room.
