Tom's account on OnePocket.org of winning this event

When I won the first ever Missouri State 9 Ball Championship back in '82, I think I got $500. I have No Idea what I did with that money, but I know the trophy is in our family room and my kids tell their friends all about "Their Pop" all the time. All the $ in the world, can't buy that!
Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the money and I play for the money, but as I get older and hopefully a little wiser, I find my priorities are being redefined.
I have always told my kids, - I make money, money doesn’t make me.

I think what I enjoyed the most about this last tournament was,
1. The true fellowship of all the other players who played and gave it their all. I realize that none of us are going to out-live the game and the respect of other players is about all you can hope to take with you.
2. The entire weekend experience that Phil and his staff provided. Phil, Maggie and I - "HAD A BALL". They really know what they are doing when it comes to running a business & tournament. Very professional but VERY friendly. They made me feel as though I was playing in my home poolroom and If you’re a player, you can really appreciate what that is like.
3. As far as the equipment goes, "What can I say" - GC IV's, Centennial Balls with the original Blue Circle cue ball, great lighting, etc.
If you ever see someone driving down the street in a new Rolls Royce - Ask them, what they think of the ride! Of course I realize that when you win, all is beautiful, wonderful, etc., but I can honestly say - This last weekend will be with me for as long as I live. I only have one regret and that is that my wife and kids were not there. They actually got mad at me for not bringing them, like I knew I was going to win or something. My Son said, come on Dad, you have always said that the only way to have Complete Control is to be In Stroke and play'n Pool. I think they are really starting to believe all my bullshit.

Now this wouldn't be me if I didn't comment on the FOOD but this was different. I have never seen the quality, quantity or selection that was available. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, complete pot roast dinner, strip steak dinner, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, chili, fish, everything including one of the best sandwiches I've ever had - A Hustler Burger. It was a triple Decker that had ham, turkey, 2 cheeses, krout, & a great burger. It was all served by some of the nicest, most attentive and efficient staff members that I have ever seen operate in a poolroom before. The entire staff (especially the tournament directors) ran a "First Class" Tournament.
Echo - I notice you’re from Columbia. Do me a favor and tell Phil, Maggie and everyone there - THANKS, AGAIN.
GOTTA GO NOW! For some reason, I’m very hungry!

TY & GL
